I grew up in Wyo and went to U of W. Be fore-warned.....the wind howls about 350 days a year! I ended up moving south to Colo where the wind only blows around 7 days a year and we have around 2 additional months of summer. On a positive note, I really miss having relatively good draw odds for limited big game tags. Wyo res also have the opportunity to hunt OTC deer and elk in general units scattered across the state.

Somewhere around 1994 I landed in Laramie for a summer. Roofed houses with a local climber named Bob Scarpelli, hung out with a bunch of Deadheads, and got lost in a long legged law student. Should have never left, but I was young, and youth was there to be wasted.

Be careful of what you wish for, WY. is great for hunting/fishing/outdoors, but there is much more to life. My wife & I lived there in Rawlins for a little over 2 years. Winters are ruff and long for real! We have lived in MT. Northern NV., and high elevations (9000') in CO. and can handle & love non urban living. South central WY. get LOTs of wind cold wind, short summers. Roads Hwy's and interstates get closed and you get land locked, ground blizzards, roads in town get snow and ice packed all winter. Yep Fort Collins isn't far but sometimes you just can't get there from here. Just saying like it is, good luck.

Not sure what Med school your talking about. Nursing sure but no med school. Laramie is a good place to be sure but a guess every place is good if you have the right frame of mind. Wind...yup sometimes, cold... sure and you are close to Colorado and some people think thats a plus., some not so much. Its all what you make of it, if your looking for a certain opinion I'm sure you'll find it.

It’s an extension program through the University of Washington med school. Several states have these programs including Wyoming. She’s also applied for the Masters of Nursing program there as well.

My GF’s brother lives there with his wife and 2 kids. Nurse and a USGS employee. Household income of about 140ish. 2 young kids. They bought a really nice, older home in town.

The skiing situation (besides XC) isn’t so ideal if that’s a factor. There’s a “family” ski area about an hour away that probably doesn’t satisfy the serious skier. Probably 2-3 hour drive for something better. They go there every other weekend and drive over to Summit County on alternate weekends, which would make me want to blow my brains out, but you make do with what you have, I suppose.

If you are going to go to college there, thats fine and there are much worse places to go to school for a few years but be forwarned, Wyoming, anywhere along I-80 is a very different place. The people are basically the finest I’ve ever lived around and the hunting is fantastic. But after those two items things go downhill fast. When people on here say wind, they mean serious, soul crushing wind. Like every single day in the winter and most of the time the rest of the year. I lived in the region for 5 years when I took an entry level position right out of school and the weather there really wears on you. Enjoy the outdoor opportunities while you’re there but I would never go back there long term.
