Landlocked Public Land Solution?

Gotta ask, and I know people use helicopters to drop in some states, but what is the difference between flying in and "jumping" over a corner?

Some states specifically outlaw corner crossing like Wyoming. So the only way to access the public land without landowner permission is through the air which is open to anybody so long as you are following FAA rules.

Yeah I'm just being devil's advocate. What if I can jump really high?

If the land is “public” there should be a law that mandates X number of public access points per X miles of perimeter. Doesn’t have to be roads or highways, merely some sort of navigable pathways that allow the people who pay for the land to access it. Else the land is not “public.” Not sure why this concept is so damn hard for people to understand.

But there is much truck in playing the public land game... on both sides.

My brother is taking paragliding lessons as we speak for this very reason.

You dang helo guys are only serving to drive up the cost of LO tags!

Guys are figuring it out they can spend thousands to get into some crummy public ground...or they can chunk down the $$ and buy a LO tag in a really good limited draw unit like 36 in NM......

I’d be interested to see if it could haul not only me, but whatever animal my fat ass is trying to bring out.

Can you cite the specific law in Wyoming outlawing corner crossing?

Good luck with that...

Nope, not at all, but when the attorney general says something may be illegal, I'm not volunteering to be the trial case.

" In 2004, the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office issued an opinion that “corner crossing” from one parcel of public land to another in order to hunt that other public parcel, depending on the factual situation involved, may not violate the game and fish trespass statute, but may be a criminal trespass violation."

It is not a G&F violation to corner cross and wardens will not ticket for it. There has not been a single case of it being prosecuted in Wyoming that I can find. Phone calls to County Attorneys find they wont prosecute either.

So, you misspoke, there is no specific game and fish law/statute that makes corner crossing illegal. Pat Cranks opinion while AG stated corner crossing was NOT a GF violation. It was his opinion it MAY constitute criminal trespass...key word, MAY.

An Albany County judge Robert Castor also found in favor of a guy that corner crossed in the Laramie Range to hunt as well.

There is no statewide precedent saying its illegal...like you claimed in your first post. Further, its not a GF violation.

You state wardens won’t ticket for it. Unless you have talked to them all how can you know? The warden in the unit I am thinking of hunting said it is illegal and not to do it. Have you talked to every current county prosecutor?

You also said there are no cases of it. How did the guy end up in court in Albany county if he was not cited?

If I won’t get in trouble for corner crossing that would change my application.

If you paraglide in, how do you get out? Float down a river?
[/QUOTE

The paraglider he is looking at has a gas powered motor and can hold two passengers. From what he tells me he is going to fly in, kill something and quarter it up and put in the front seat and bring the meat out in stages. We got frustrated hunting Wyoming this year and seeing the huge amounts of public land that couldn't be hunted.

If you paraglide/helo or other aircraft into landlocked BLM, you must land on an established road or 2 track

Also, states like Alaska forbid hunting and flying on the same day, except on a regularly scheduled commercial carrier.
