Kuiu’s rifle cover is a copycat design

Having grown up in the rainforest of the Pacific northwest and never having seen one of these things other than on TV.
Can someone explain to me the use/purpose of a rifle cover?

Everyone hunts a little different.

My hunts could include, goats, horses, jet boat, long night hikes or a ATV. I like a cover to keep dust, snow, rain off the rifle. It also gives it a little protection from general wear and tear. Cheap insurance for a spendy instrument.

After 4 days hiking and hunting in eastern Washington this year, I can definitely see some utility in keeping dust off… It’s everywhere.

I've had good luck with the cheap Caldwell version from Amazon, but I don't have the days on it that some of you put on your stuff. It's not exactly lightweight, though.

I like mine for hiking in the dark in inclement weather. I get nervous having a rifle in it in daylight with an open season, as it's one extra step if it's suddenly gotime.

You didn’t see that Tim Burnett essentially works for Kuiu? Must of thought he still had a contract w/ Under Armor.

It appears that was the deepest rub for him. He posted all of his personal KUIU gear for sale last week. I wasn’t sure what his relationship was but I knew he was affiliated. He didn’t know about this until they announced the product.

But there is the rub. Its codura. Enough rain and its gonna wet out. And then it would be heavy and wet right up against your gun and something else to have to dry out.

The inside is coated with a waterproof application.

I just read some of Tim's Instagram posts on the subject and it really flipped my opinion on this issue. I remember when Jason started Kuiu and had a forum to get feedback for his new small hunting clothing company that was going to take on sitka gear which was the big company overcharging for fashionable camo. Kuiu has definitely changed without him there. I don't spend much on hunting clothing, and I have only a few pieces of Kuiu, but this whole thing will make it easier for me to look elsewhere in the future.

I've also decided against buying a rifle cover. I hate spending money to make my pack heavier.

I am with Ryan on this one. I use these rifle covers all the time. If you don’t or can’t patent something then its all fair game. Hopefully KUIU improved on them in some way, made the ends more durable or something. You spend a few K on a rifle, another $2-$3k on a scope and for a few bucks can reduce the wear and tear on it with these rifle covers. No brainer…

Who owns Kuiu now? Is it private or SCorp?
Have not bought any of their gear since Jason died. 10 year old attack pants won’t quit, nor will the old guide gear. Truly curious who is running the show.

These kinds of covers are essential IMO. Like Ryan said all those elements can be harsh on your rifles and has negative effects on your rifle’s glass. Once you go to a neoprene scope cover paired with a rifle cover like solo hunters/kuiu you’ll probably throw all those scope caps away. You don’t have to pair a scope cover with the rifle cover but I like packing in both options to spike camp, they weigh nothing. I also always tape my barrel.

I ditched those stupid plastic covers and flip-up things a long time ago for the neoprene covers.

I'll have to try one of these rifle covers now. I'd never heard of the other brands. Any extra layer of protection I can get, the better. There's a lot of money invested in these boom sticks.

Thanks for the heads up about this cover, just purchased. I'll let everyone know my thoughts vs the solo hunter version. I like that kuiu has velcro on the bottom for extra protection.

I really like a full length cover when carrying my rifle on the ATV on dusty roads.
