Been looking at the Guide and the Yukon. I like that the Yukon is water proof, and that its kind of a all in one jacket. But I was wondering if it would be to warm for elk season and if I would be better off with the Guide. I mostly backpack and it would help if I can cut back on equipment. Or if I would be better off with the Guide and bringing my rain gear.

Any input on either jackets is much appreciated.

I know a lot of guys say the Yukon is the Guide and Chugach all in one, but I prefer to have the 2 separate jackets.

I wear the guide when it's cooler, and find it to be a great weather resistant, quiet, breathable, and comfortable jacket. The Chugach rain gear is always in my pack and goes on over top if it actually rains. I prefer this system over a single bulkier jacket.

I also have a Guide and a Yukon. If I'm anticipating wet conditions, the Yukon goes over layers. If mainly dry, the Guide is my 'go to' jacket. I never take both.

I wear my Guide jacket 90% of the time because its quiet and it does pretty well in mild weather. I throw my shell on over the top if its raining/snowing. This system works for me.

The guide jacket is pretty water resistant I wouldn't trust it alone all day but I have been in some pretty good downpours in mine and have stayed dry. If you wanted a rain jacket also I would get the Chugach as it is lighter and more pack able than the Yukon.

i would recommend both. If constant rain for hours/ days on end I wear the Yukon, as the guide will begin to leak after many hours / beating the brush. As season progresses with more snow than rain or forecast is cooler with limited/not constant rain then I go with the guide. Both are fine additions to your mt hunting collection.
