I want to purchase some good rain gear for my elk hunt this fall. I'm hunting in the PNW around Mount Saint Helens, and its usually pretty wet and nasty. I've used the Killik Axiom rain gear the past two seasons, and for how inexpensive it is, its pretty decent. The pants rip pretty easy though. I'm ready to invest in some high quality rain gear. I've landed on the Kuiu Yukon or First Lite Omen Stormshelter. Is one better than the other? You don't usually come across bad reviews for the Yukon gear. What are y'all favoring to stay somewhat dry out there?

Shoot! That's a bummer. Did you contact Kuiu about it? I expect some dampness due to body heat. But I would expect to stay pretty dry with the price of their stuff.
I didn't contact them, I'm confident they would have had a blanket response that doesn't change the fact that I was wet in BFE Alaska much more than I should have been.

i have only been wetted out once in my Yukon gear, and it was just my jacket last year goat hunting. It was a complete torrential down pour and i was hiking for most of the day in it. Guess its time to give it a tech wash.

My FL Omen gear has not ever leaked through and i'm happy with it. Only complaint i have is seems a little smaller than true size and i wish i could've tried it on before ordering. I had Yukon pants before with the Chugach top and i thought both were good, but the chugach top wasn't as heavy duty but that's why i bought it was for the lighter weight in my pack.

Good to know! Yeah I'm not looking for packable light weight. I want heavy duty. I don't get caught in bad weather, I have to hunt in it all day. Seems like the Omen Stormshelter and Yukon are the main contenders that fit that bill.

I have the first lite predecessor to the omen and have been very happy with it. I have had it since 2022 and has never wetted out. Worked perfect jn SE AK foe a bear hunt and also western alaska moose hunt.

I'm leaning towards the First Lite Omen Stormshelter. Could be the marketing... but even the reviews on the website are all PNW Blacktail and Roosevelt hunters that are raving about it. Idk... that's where I am with it at the moment.

I’ve had great results with both. Can’t go wrong with either in my opinion.
