Kuiu harness?

Doesn't seem to make sense not to have the shoulder straps attached to the pouch, but a few minutes with a needle and thread might make a world of difference.

My Kuiu harness survived a bike ride today without slipping or falling on the ground (note sarcasm). I've even basterdized mine and added the FHF range finder pouch to the chest strap.

The pros for my FHF:
1. Harness is attached over both the shoulders and chest keeping it secure.
2. I liked the additional pouches on the outside of the pouch for holding calls, wind smoke, etc...
3. The combo with the range finder pouch rocks.

The cons for my FHF:
1. It didn't seem to fit on my shoulders quite right. I think the "X" point in the back wasn't in the right spot for me.
2. When you withdraw the binos the flip cover comes up pretty high towards your face. There is excess movement to clear it out of the way of the binos.

The pros for my Kuiu:
1. It is really comfortable. I often forget it is on my chest.
2. I prefer to the lack of shoulder straps to the case.
3. Easy one handed removal of binos with minimal movement.

The cons for my Kuiu:
1. Had to wait for it on back order for a couple months. This is my Kuiu pet peeve and main reason I haven't gotten on the Kuiu bandwagon.
2. It is minimalist with very small side pouches. My smoke bottle fits, but it's a pain to get it in.

I think both pouches are great and you can't go wrong with either option. I have not had any issues with the Kuiu harness wanting to fall or come loose. Good luck with your purchase.

...I have never removed the straps from the binos themselves. Your tripod is close to you when glassing, and, at least for me, the length of the shoulder straps reaches perfectly to my mounted binoculars. Then, I can just release the quick-release dovetail, set them in the pouch, and attach my spotter for a closer look....

I've owned the FHF, S4, badlands, and kuiu. I have not used the Alaskan guide but hear great things.

I liked the protection the FHF offered but it was too bulky and loud for my bowhunting.

I really like the kuiu. It seems to work well for me. I don't think te strap thing is an issue. Cinch it tighter and it won't slide down. I like that it is quiet and sleek.

I used one of these from the chest strap View attachment 17977 which allowed me add a section of webbing from the harness to the case. I can adjust the length. I have the straps just attached to the case with safety pins at the moment but I could easily sew them in if I decide its what I want. But I really don't know that its an improvement. This seems like the best way I can think of to add the strap, and it seemed like a simple fix but I think the harness just isn't designed to work with a strap like we all want. I think the whole harness needs to be redesigned.

So, after ALL that we learn that the product doesn't work as designed when it is not used as designed. Shocker.

I've tried it both ways. I'm not a complete idiot... i guess it was sarcasm that was missed. And if it doesnt work the way I need it to work then I dont care how it works for other people. I am not saying people are wrong for liking it, i understand how people would like it... but for me its not what i need.

Did Jason design the Sikta one? Looked at one today whilst walking around Sportsmans Whorehouse.

I'm playing around a little with some mods on mine. I got a couple slotted three-bar sliders and some extra webbing with loops sewn in. I put the three-bars up on the shoulder strap webbing about in the area where the Bino QR clips are & can adjust from there. I just ran the side straps through the loops. It takes a little to get into and out of…I imagine much like a bra, but I've never worn one so I can't be certain on that, but the rig seems to stay in place better than without. I debated sewing the webbing to the side of the Bino pouch just below the lid, but wanted to try a less permanent solution first. We'll give it a try and see how it works, but I'm open to other suggestions. Not a complete solution but an improvement IMO.

BTW…I haven't tried this with a pack on to see if the three-bars interfere with the pack straps. they can be moved back, but not forward. Still waiting on my Exo as I am pack less.

I can tell from the photos, edg1967, that I wear my bino harness a lot higher. Not sure your extra straps would serve any purpose on me. I wear the bottom straps kind of in a spot where they naturally want to sit below my nipples and above my belly. Right under where your shoulder blade pokes out when you raise your elbow to the side.

Yea, I actually jacked mine up quite a bit from the pic. Probably midway through my nipple line.

Just a follow up to my post from last week on this , I did order the Kuiu harness , got it yesterday , set it up this morning, put the Vipers in it and took a couple mile walk with it , didn't have to readjust it at all , fit snug to the chest , stayed snug to the chest , comfortable , could access the Vipers one handed , could put them away one handed , nicely designed IMO . I have been using Rick Young Ultra Light Harness for a while and although I like them a lot they offer no protection unless you buy the additional case , and I don't particularly care for the case they offer to work with that system . Time will tell with the Kuiu but I don't see anything that would make me not like them , I like the option of using it with the elastic banding instead of the case , that'll come in handy in certain situations . Size large is perfect for the 10 x 42 Vipers . For me I think these will work just fine . I would recommend them without hesitation.

I've found the Kuiu harness rides nicely with the bottom of the bino case sitting about an inch below my sternum.

Wapiti, that Y idea is a good one, that alone may address the other issue being discussed.

I can see the need for the other strap if the bucket portion slides down in a person when they are using it.

It would better hold it when the binos are out but it would still allow the pouch to be pushed down when attempting to put the binos back with one hand... Straps over the shoulders would prevent any chance of this and add less than an ounce to the weight. I'll prob do the mod myself after this season. It works fine as is just frustrates me the few times my other hand is occupied and I try to put my binos back in the pouch one handed.

If your like me and see no need for a rain cover on a bino harness... I sold just that rain cover on ebay for like $40.

Hmm... Not using mine either.

Ive been using this harness for awhile and on a lot of stalks, when i first got it my initial impression was the feeling of the side straps on my ribs then having to adjust when putting on a heavier jacket. Now i wear it a little looser and have gotten used to it that way but it could be tighter while only wearing a shirt, didnt really like readjusting every time i took off my jacket, i really do like it with the case on though, no trouble with one handed operation for me. Saw the mod someone did, forgot who, with elastic on the side and it looks like something i may try later seems like it would make it more comfortable and fit more layers without having to adjust it.
