They are the best IMO. Pocket configuration with zippers, built in knee pads, 4 way stretch, and slim fit are the features that set them apart. They are very comfortable. I've also ran mine through some pretty rough stuff that I thought for sure would tear them up, but not a single tear/hole.
Love my Alpine pants. They're cooler than the Attack's and worked great for early season sheep. They held up well to me doing some nasty climbing in shale and sliding around at times. They seem to run a little bit larger than other pants. The newer Vias camo pattern is much darker in these than my older Attack pants. I like the look of the older, more muted color more than the newer/darker Vias.
I have a 34 inch waist (jean sizing) and the 34's fit good. I have a 30 inch inseam and the knee pads fit me more like shin guards, so I returned them, other wise I would have kept them.
The knee pads are a tricky one for a lot of guys and don't fit or line up very well for many. Mine ride typically low when hiking, but when I kneel down, they pop right into place where they need to be. My hunt partner had some, but the pads were way too low on him.
I have 32 attacks and they are slightly tight in the waist .I'm more a 32x33 waist . And i agree i do not like the pockets on the attacks all that much. More so the rear pockets. The Alpines in 32 are perfect.I think the waist is a bit stretchier i find them much more comfortable.
My 32's measured closer to 34....I wear a 31 and really had to have them taken in a lot. kuiu told me they designed them looser so layering would be easier.
I love the pocket layout on these and the knee pads rock. The new lighter material was much more resistant to pulls on deadfall, etc for me.
I like mine. I think it would be tough to find a better early season product with a good knee pad configuration. I hate knee pads but these are okay. I did tear mine on a barbed wire fence, a L shaped tear about 3/4" in both directions. I called Kuiu to ask about repair and they recommended some shop in CA, I haven't sent them in yet. I'll probably just darn them myself. I am getting a pair of Attack's this summer, and will have both with me at the trailhead, and depending on weather report wear one or the other.
