Got it. You're the guy who is upset with people upset about a 1 deer limit. Understood. Hey, that's your prerogative. Kudos.
No one is "actually complaining".
We're just saying spending that money for 1 deer ain't worth the squeeze.

Would you like me to change my stance and say "super stoked about spending 5k to kill a 110" deer"!!!!???

Why you so upset?? How does this affect you?
Why am I monster for not going to Kodiak for 1 deer??
Hook me up Bro. I'm curious.
Got it, so you’re going to complain about something you don’t understand bragging about money you spend. Then backtrack and play the victim. Go drink your bud light and hunt in a state that better suites your elitism .

What about me? I spent almost 10 years in AK, fishing Kodiak and dutch harbor? tendering the sound, crab cod pollack in the berring cod halibut and bairidi out of Kodiak, even made the Kodiak newspaper when a writer came down and talked to us tied to city dock.
Got to kill a couple bucks when I was there and had a plan to come back some day. Now I won't because 1 deer is a wasted trip. I want to shoot 3 deer.

I spent a lot of money in Kodiak and helped keep a bunch of Alaskans working putting millions of pounds of seafood across the docks.

Am I a victim too because u wanna shoot more than 1 deer?

You're welcome!! I did 32 years active duty US Coast Guard. I was at the Exxon Valdez Spill. Scrubbed oil off rocks. I did Search and Rescue out of Ketchikan for 4 years. Sailed it all. Aleutians down to Boca De Quadra.
I'm truly a monster. I want at least 2 deer. Not 1. I'm just a guy who doesn't contribute nothing. Never had. Never will.
I'm spoiled.

My friend, I'm not passing judgment on you. Thank you for your service.

I'm just pointing out that the explicitly stated, desired outcome for this bag limit reduction was to reduce NR hunting pressure, so when people get huffy and say "Screw that! I'm not going to Kodiak anymore!" it's like "Yes, exactly. Thank you."

Go to Kodiak, have a beautiful hunt, shoot a big buck, but people that want to make arguments about cost per pound of meat should probably look into chicken thighs.

You are the problem, if you don’t live here and pay taxes. You take a back seat to residents period.

I did pay taxes. I paid federal tax on every dollar I earned working in your state. I also paid sales tax on all the extremely overpriced goods I needed to work in your state. I also resided far more than 6 months a year, for the better part of a decade.
If your deer herds were in decline then maybe I'd be okay with the limit change but they aren't. And if any state in the lower 48 has the numbers for more than 1 animal I'm all for that as well.
AK residents are just butt hurt about the fact they aren't smart enough to book a transporter in advance before someone else and now you clowns want to limit NR bag limit.

Everything you referenced was past tense, the reason you aren’t a resident now. Otherwise you wouldn’t be typing on a keyboard complaining into thin air. Try again tourist

ADF&G does not produce population estimates for deer in the Kodiak Archipelago, so there's no data available to determine whether the herd size is increasing, decreasing, or stable. No estimate doesn't mean no problem, it just means no estimate.

See, that's the misconception. No one is getting huffy. We're just stating facts. We ain't going. We ain't mad, we ain't upset, we could give 2 squirts. We're just saying, "bye Felicia"

We're just awfully amused at people upset at people like me not going.
Show me where I said anything negative about AK or anything.
I just stated fact. Juice ain't worth the squeeze.

Because your money doesn’t go into the economy it affects no one other than the “guides” and over half of them don’t even live in our state. Meanwhile locals can’t even get a plane service to fly them out because of people like you booking them over a year in advance. Go hunt moose or caribou and see what I’m talking about. No way in hell anyone is going to miss seeing out of state people shooting three deer. Go catch some fish. How would you like it if all the Alaskans with money came to your state and were allowed three deer? Bunch of damn hypocrites who don’t even follow hard winters that kill up to 70% of populations in one winter. Read a book
bingo. will be nice to actually have some wiggle room in kodiak. of the week we were out hunting last year the pilots were able to fly 3 days. with all those people shacked up and stuck in kodiak we almost were not able to find a place to stay when we got out, i think we got the last hotel room available in kodiak. The air transports will still be just as busy maybe the boat hunts will have a few less people. Contrary to popular belief, residents like to get off the road system as well and dont always like to plan 3 years in advance due to population swings after bad winters.

sure a non res can only shoot 1 buck, but they can also shoot plenty of ducks and catch fish as well. Seems like a pretty sweet cast and blast to me. I think the thread got off track after the dude said he just wants to shoot a bunch to get more kills under his belt, which rightfully so pist off a bunch of people. No ones businesses are going to collapse and they will be just fine and happy taking out residents.

I would disagree with that. Testimony given by transporters during the meeting doesn't agree either. And just by the fact that 50% of every jet going to and from the island is camouflaged dudes kinda says otherwise as well.

I don't agree with the proposal. It has nothing to do with population. All the public comments were opposed (besides a local community) and that includes opposition by residents. Even the AC's were mostly opposed. Unfortunately, the Kodiak AC in favor and the public comment by the Community of Port Lions held a ton of weight. You can see on this site where the nonresident wave runs and it's currently on Kodiak. Wherever that wave runs, restriction soon follow. Before Kodiak everyone here was all in on 23 caribou. Now it's making its way to the Haul Road. After that's restricted, it will be Unit 18 moose.
Think your analysis is right on target on this issue. We'll see what happens on the haul road this fall 🤔

Go ahead and take a look at who owns the business owned by that opposed and follow the money . Very few of the monopolies owned in Alaska are by Alaskans. Gci, Alaska airlines , ac. Follow the money people. Natives in Kotzebue can back door Alaskans with bs to democrats with federal funds but tax paying locals don’t have a say? Doesn’t make sense but I’m just a dumb plumber who doesn’t know anything

There are other places to kill deer. Not just Kodiak.

I literally tried to book my flight a year out as I was flying out for my float trip last year. I was told, sorry, and I could get on the waiting list because the guides had priority this coming season due to them being pushed into our area because of the feds.

If Alaskans aren’t smart enough for you, then maybe you should stay in the lower 48 with people that are.

Last time I went to Alaska I spent 3 nights in a hotel, ate at 6 different restaurants, bought souvenirs from several local shops and bought some items at a local gun store.

And any alaskan can come to my state and shoot 6 deer, a black bear and unlimited wild hogs for about $500 in license fees.

Let’s hear the state then? North Carolina? You mean private land? This is the most famous island in North America for hunting. Where the same bays and lakes have been hunted hard for 60 years . Those hotels and shops will be just fine with all the other tourists that come to town. Also we’re not comparing white-tails to black-tails again are we? It’s not the same , killing your limit in a stand on your buddy’s property riddled with white-tail is not the same.

I lived in Alaska a total of approximately 39 years. My guess is I flew in to Kodiak to hunt deer at least 10 times, and twice to Montague.
If there is a state with a more f'ed up F&G department I have yet to discover it.
The last person F&G cares about is the average resident or non resident hunter.
