I'm going to get into the muzzy game to chase big mulies. I've settled on a 45 cal Knight Ultralight (I primarily backpack style hunt). My rifle needs to be Idaho legal, and I'll be hunting colorado as well. I've been doing some research on solid, hard hitting, accurate conical bullets, and not coming up with much. I could use any advice on powder/bullets as a place to start. Any help is much appreciated!

If elk is on the menu, you have to use a 50 cal in CO.

I'm using 275g Parker ballistic extremes in my Knight 45 over a 1/8" wool wad and BH209 with CCI primers. Love this combo!

Only deer for me! And no sabots in Idaho but the parkers look great if you can use em! Any experience with PRBs?

Seems like there used to be a bullet made by Precision Rifle Bullets called the Ultimate One Conical. In 360 grain, looks pretty ideal as a bore size conical. Anybody who used to use these find something similar?

He quit making them. There was just not enough guys buying them to make it worth it. Sad, it was one of the best muzzleloader bullets on the market, and Idaho/NW legal.

Thanks for the info. What bullet are you using now to replace them?

77grW (lot 35) gives me 1979fps, this is supposed to be about 110grV.

Here's the last 3 shot group (just about MOA) I took at 200 yards.

Jacketed sabotless IS legal in Colorado but not Idaho as sabotloader mentioned. So you would need the Western version of the UL and not the Colorado legal. Western is percussion and Colo legal is 209. You can buy the parts for using 209s at Sportsmans Warehouse for like $85 but i would spend the additional $16.50 on the Lehigh plug if you plan on doing much 209 shooting. Its a much better plug than the OEM and cheaper.

As far as loads 70-80gr of just about any powder will send a 400gr-460gr lead conical down range with all the FPE you would ever need for deer inside of 200 yards. Mr Hollow Point also offers some good pricing on bullets that will work but you would need to lube them yourself. He will size them to order and in pure lead.

In my 45 1-20 with a 209 i shoot 70gr of BH209 with a Gould 350gr sized to .451ish and 80gr with a Bullshop 460gr. Those are both around a 1400fps load in a 27" barrel. You can achieve the same thing with caps and a little more T7 or Swiss.
