So what’s everyone’s numbers for a fixed blade broadhead and elk. Playing with arrow weights now, I can get my arrow at 480 .58 slug momentum to the max I would tak a shot I will be shooting. Is .59 a good penetrating number.

Kinetic just above 80
Slug momentum .59

You are getting way too far into the weeds.

Shoot a properly spined arrow that is tunable (reasonable speed) with a decent broadhead and it will kill an elk.

Elk are not that hard to kill with a bow - getting within range to shoot one is the hard part.
What Sker said. Keep it simple don't overthink it. I went from 410gn up to 520 back down to 450, in 2 years. All killed everything I shot at and hit with all three. Coming out of a 29" draw @ 72 pounds. Just too much screwing around.

I'm right where you are. Just got a new bow, wanting to tighten up my set up to help with making it have more room for error. Moving from ~520 to probably 450 depending how things go together.

I don't use collars or halfouts or anything extra on the end of my arrow. I just want stuff that is sharp, won't break and is consistent. I want a system with 100% confidence in accuracy and performance.

I made 1 arrow and it weighed 503, and speed was 262. I’m getting speed mods which are supposed to bring it up 8-10 fps. I was thinking of an arrow around 480 grain with the 100 grain point.

Just remember tuning can be more difficult when you go past 280fps.

480-500gr arrow going 270-280fps is going to zip through an elk!
I have a axcel landslyde on my prime. Do you think one can dial out to 100 yards. My vanes are .5 tall. I know I will have to test, but just wondering tonight lol.

Good advice above 👆

When I first started shooting a recurve with a very efficient BH it was an eye opener on how insignificant some of the archery numbers like FOC, Slug, KE and MO actually are.

I started hunting with a 40# recurve and 11GPP arrow and it was zipping through everything.....and by zipping through I mean the arrow was hardly slowing down.

A 700# [or so] moose I shot a few years ago was a perfect example of how the factors above are insignificant. 47# recurve, 553g arrow with a 2 blade. first arrow blew through the moose as did the second [for good measure] ...literally bouncing along the ground 20y past the animal.

If you shoot a very efficient BH design, many of those arrow factors don't matter so much. If you shoot an inefficient BH design, THEN having some energy and arrow weight behind that BH definitely helps them work better.

I have no idea, and don’t care even a little

I promise that it doesn’t matter, you almost have to go out of your way to build an arrow system that doesn’t work well on any NA game.

The only time I think it’s good to put a lot of thought into your arrow is if you’re shooting really big critters with very low energy setups (like short draw, low draw weight and big animals)

Don’t get too wrapped up in the weeds, spend your time focusing on things that matter, we are generally the weak link in the system…. Almost always

That will be great regardless. I know common knowledge is people like that 280fps, which is great, but 260 is too, it’s not that much different in pin gaps, and it’s more forgiving in flight

Regardless, you have energy to spare, and that 503gr arrow would be great
