Kimber rebarrel worth it?

Makes sense. 6/06 is a lot of powder for 3100 with a 115, but should feed well from the existing mag set-up. H1000 works well with 243AI and heavy bullets as does N165. If you can find it RL25 and RL17 seem to make more velocity. I never tried RL26 but would imagine it would be magic for velocity.

I'm pretty much stuck on h1000 for 243AI. Barrel life is stupid long for something that overbore and the velocity is pretty good. N165 has the same attributes, but is more temp sensitive and higher pressure, making functional issues at the same velocities.

I found similar results in my 243 AI’s with 7828ssc and Retumbo. Both worked really well, as did RL-17. That’s a favorite cartridge of mine, super fun round.

Thanks for the out guys. There’s a Kimber .243 barrel on eBay, I’m tempted to pick it up. But without going Ackley I might be better off just selling for trading the 280 for a 84M. I’m waiting to hear back on costs to do a tikka takeoff in 243AI.

Are you going to have a smith do it or try to rent the stuff and do it yourself? If you're going to hire a gunsmith, it might be worth the extra couple hundred dollars to buy top end cut rifled blank. If you're trying to do it on as much of a budget as possible, I understand.

Also, if working with a 243 chamber, it technically needs set back one thread to get the correct crush fit on regular 243 brass. If you are thinking about hand reaming to 243AI, you can jam bullets to fireform, you will just end up potentially having extra headspace on regular 243 ammo.

Haven’t decided. A smith if I go tikka take off barrel or I might do it myself if I pickup a Kimber barrel. I have a lathe at home but have in used it to cut threads. I may just try it myself and if I mess it up pay a smith? Looks like pretty minimal work if I go with a Kimber take off.
