I picked up a Kimber 84M hunter pro in .308 in the gun library at Cabelas. It appeared to be new and unfired in the box. That particular version is on sale at Cabelas for 899$ right now. I came in 200$ less than that tax included. What thoughts do you guys that own these rifles have about them? Good or bad. This rifle is a cabelas/bass pro exclusive. It has a camo stock, threaded barrel and factory brake, and the Kimberkote on the action and barrel.

I believe it is the same as the regular Hunter it just adds the brake and coating on the stock and barrel.
There are many reviews out on the web on the Hunter and for the most part they’re pretty good.
I researched pretty extensively and many on here didn’t like the feel of the Hunter stock.....I agree with that assessment after handling it and the Montana side by side and wound up with the latter.
That said, the Hunter realistically should do anything you want to do....especially in that versatile caliber.

I have the same rifle just in 6.5 Creedmoor. I really like it however there’s a big difference between it and the higher end Kimbers like the Mountain Ascents.

The good: it’s lightweight. Shoulders well and is very accurate once you get used to shooting a lighter rifle. And I actually like the feel of the stock.

the bad: the action is not as smooth as I would hope and sometimes when you cycle after a shot the bullet will hang up and not cycle into the chamber very smooth.

overall I like the gun and am happy I purchased it. Other than the action not being as smooth as some others i don’t have any other complaints

I like my 84m 308 Montana. It’s great for what I want. A smallish, lightweight rifle with plenty of punch. It’s a good shooting gun with federal 150 trophy copper and sub-moa when I’m doing my part behind the trigger. Not as easy to shoot as a 10lb creedmoor but it can shoot very well with good technique. Although most don’t buy this rifle with dreams of making it a benchrest specialist.
That said, a kimber 84m 308 is really tough to beat for a good hunting rifle at most hunting distances. And a great one when the terrain is steep and thick. You’ll be happy.

You did good on that deal! I think kimbers are a great value. Most of the difference between the hunter and the higher end models is the stock. The ascent has some extra machining on the bolt and barrel, but it’s the same action bolt and barrel. There’s some gell in the butt stock and pistol grip of the hunter stock. About 8-10oz worth. If you want your hunter even lighter, you can remove it.

I've never had a Hunter, but love Montanas.

Sounds like you did well.

You ever shoot in Saltville?

I've never handled a hunter but I sure do like my 84m Montana. Seems like the hunter is just a budget stock on the same action/barrel as a Montana. Id imagine it will be a nice light handy rifle. Mine shoots tiny groups with 168g bergers behind 48g of rl17. I was about to give up on that load while doing the work up, 46g of powder was like a shotgun pattern (not that bad but ~2"), the 47g of powder wasn't a whole lot better, maybe 1.5". When I shot the first group with 48g of powder I actually thought I'd missed the target twice, when I walked up I saw I had put them all in a tiny cloverleaf. I loaded up 30 more rounds of that and had the same result so that will be my current go to for the Montana. I love that gun and now that I have a real load for it, its more accurate than I am.

Yea I shoot there quite often. Usually have a Kimber or 2 with me. Rarely see any around here, a guy had a Hunter at the range a week or so ago, thought it may have been you!
