Kifaru moving to WY

And what exactly can be blamed for all the good folks of Colorado becoming over it? What was the root cause of it?
I feel for all the good folks, all of us have issues lol. I think kifaru had outgrown their current facility and the Denver environment made them look at other options. This is just what I think I remember hearing on their podcast. They being said I could be plumb full of sh!t and be totslly seeing.

Another reason to chuckle when the Wyo residents talk about "I pay taxes here".
Huh?
No state income tax
No sales tax on groceries
No sales tax on prescriptions
No tax on retirement income
Property tax is one of the 10 lowest in the country.

I guess they mean the beer tax.

Things might have to change when the door is slammed on the last coal mine unless they can hit those wind farms but Wyoming is one of the most tax friendly states in the country.
All three of my retirement incomes are federally taxed here. So, to be clear, no State income tax, which was already listed.
Compared to rural U.S. the housing market is expensive.... gas, groc, hard goods are all about 50%higher here than the midwest.
Annual vehicle registration is very expensive too... it is a trade off. For someone coming from Cali or the "other coast", things are a bargain I would assume.
Wife says we do pay sales tax on groceries. I also read we don't, but she says we do. I never paid attention.

Interesting to see the migration of some companies out of Colorado and California to Wyoming and Texas. Was talking to a friend in Sheridan about the Weatherby move there. He's glad for the local businesses and the state of Wyoming as they seemingly have to wean themselves off of coal, bummed that he's going to see more people on public land.

Good on Kifaru

Damn you may have just talked me into retiring to wyoming

I am going to take "affordable living costs, good tax code for businesses, which attracts businesses, which then brings economic development, which allows people to move there, which changes the political climate for 300, Alex."

Did I hit the nail on the head?

The Denver real estate market both commercial and residential is brutal. Even if they wanted to stay here it would probably cost a fortune to expand. Easier just to move at that stage.

My in-laws just retired to north east Wyoming. Mainly for tax reasons and affordable land.

If you can survive the wind, crappy weather for 5 months out of the year, and living a slower paced life (everyone says they want this until they start living it), you'll be fine.

LOL. A whole lot of very motivated hunters are gonna have resident designation shortly.
On the positive side, they will no longer be in the NR tag pool, i hope more move just for the hunting and remove themselves from the NR game.

It actually makes sense business wise.

Whats the avg property tax on a home and car? Do you pay $6k+ for a $350k home and close to $1500 a year for newer vehicles? Thats what it is in the KC area. Which is cheap compared to NY and CA from what I hear.

I have a feeling that even property taxes are cheap etc.

Where did you settle on moving ? I'm asking because I'm looking at all options now also. I might not be able to afford the home I'm renting now that I want to try and buy.
Outside of Cheyenne. I still work in Ft. Collins, and am willing to add a bit of time to my commute to give the kids a better childhood. The place we bought would have been almost double the price on the CO side of the border.

Edit to add a reply to Desk Jockey: I've been in CO for over 25 years. Never had a man-bun, but did have a mohawk in highschool for a state swim meet. It's long gone though.

Are the property taxes that bad compared to CO?

Wyoming taxes are .61%. Colorado property taxes are .51%

The property cost and taxable value in Wyoming are lower. According to Wallethub (first thing I found on Google) Wyoming average home value is around $220k, and Colorado is about $345k.
The median home value for Colorado's Front Range is $685k.

The place we found was about 60% of the cost of a similar property in CO, and has a stick built home on it vs a modular, which seems to be all that we could find in our area and price range with the land we wanted.

It will take a lot of .1% property taxes for us to not see a financial advantage to the move.

Per a podcast, a big reason for Wyo move is real estate cost. They need to expand. Cost to expand footprint in CO is nuts, per real estate market. Real estate in Wyo is more affordable. Obviously other factors. Per same podcast, they will maintain a presence in CO, but roadmap isn't totally hammered out.

I live where first lite was born & operates and I can tell you that their popularity and social media followings have done zero favors to crowding issues in our small town. I don't blame them for being so successful, but the aftermath of their success & social media following has drastically helped change an area my family has hunted since the 50's. This thought kind of ties into the whole social media debate brought up recently by Rinella. understandably the success of a company is not the only factor causing overcrowding in my area, but the social media following doesn't help any. once the social posts start flowing out of Wy I would bet more people will get keyed into this area, contributing to more bodies in the field. everyone has to be somewhere I guess.
Good for Kifaru.

Thanks. Yeah I agree. Im seeing double the cost also.

The one thing that is very high in Wyoming is the vehicle licensing fees. Also I believe health care is more expensive than most other states.
