Why doesn’t Kifaru make a bag with built in external pockets like every other bag maker does? That expandable pockets that hold bottles, tripods, trekking poles, etc. I don’t use a water bladder and don’t use Nalgene bottles. I don’t think I am the only one that thinks this way. Please help educate me on what I am missing.

I've wondered the same. I think (opinion) it is because their design philosophy has evolved from extremely simple, to modern but modular, not prone those external stretch pockets which are not modular. There is change on the wind, I foresee it coming down the pipe. The Nomad2 has stretch pockets on the wings, and their new smaller packs have external stretch pockets.

They did. It was called the Timberline or Duplex Timberline. After they figured out it was the perfect bag and needed no other add ons it was quickly discontinued. (I’m sure sales slowed down also when the next great thing was available). But....If you want to sell more stuff you’ve got to stop selling a perfect bag or pack that needs no other attachments. IMHO of course

The 44 mag has a 2 external side pockets and 2 top pockets along withe 2 inside and a bladder holder, I dont add pockets to it . I do like the modular pocket system on other bags though because everyone has different needs and it allows you to create yourself a custom bag.

I have an EMR II and it has 2 wings, 2 expandable pockets, and 2 other slit pockets inside the wings. My Timberline 2 also has 2 expandable pockets with a number of other pockets. The Fulcrum is similar to the EMR II? Even though they don't make either of these any more I'm pretty sure you can pick them up in the classified section. I'm pretty sure some of their new bags have outside pouches and pockets?

I'd assume their trend towards streamlined packs is to appease the ultralight, every ounce counts crowd.

Lots of their earlier packs have various pockets attached and are readily available in the classifieds as people are constantly updating and replacing gear. Personally, I haven't seen anything newer than the EMRII that's interested me.

If youre talking about the side pockets or sleeves then check out the hoodlum, reckoning, fulcrum, 44 mag, 22 mag, shape charge, hooligan, or wait a few days for the new ma duece pack. The muskegs also have small side sleeves that work great for poles or a tripod. Im using the 44 mag this year and those side pockets work great for all the things you listed, i keep my tripod in one side and my rain gear in the other.
