At least y’all found fresh sign that’s half the battle! My experience with eastern elk isn’t extensive, but I’ve had better luck getting into their bedding areas than waiting for them to come out into the open. On my elk hunts I saw lots of fresh sign on ridge tops and fields but the elk spent the vast majority of daylight in steep timbered ravines and creek bottoms
