Kenai Peninsula Vacation

Won't be much for beach fishing silvers in Homer in september...get on a charter call it a day call yesterday for a charter . Adfg normally opens the lagoon to snagging labor day weekend I think which clears out any silvers in the lagoon. There's an awesome place to eat on the spit, but not going to give up the spot because I dont want it to get blown up by a bunch of lurkers and sliders. Gotta go to know.

Chugach Adventures does a cool trip in partnership with the Alaska Railroad out of Portage. Ride the train for a bit, raft among icebergs at the foot of Spencer Glacier, and then raft down a river a few miles, and get back on the train for the ride back to Portage. Not sure how late in the season they run… but the train is cool, and so are the icebergs.

Have fun!

Thats good to know. I think we're going to try to catch some silvers in the Kenai off the shore. That will allow us to use our fishing money for a halibut charter in Homer.

Thanks SonnyDay, I'll look into that. It sounds like it would probably be fun for everyone whether young or old.

Most have touched on my advice already too.
-Always PINK!
-Sea Life Center is cool! I’m a pollock fisherman and that’s a great place to take my family when they’re up visiting to show them what a pollock is.
-Big Butt Charters in Homer is who I’d recommend. Fished with him a couple of times. Landed a 58” end of July with him.
-Either on the drive down or way back to Anchorage, I recommend swinging in at Alyeska, taking the Gondala up for lunch and having a view of the inlet! It’s like $40 I think but don’t quote me. You can look it up on their website.

Nice fish! More good info, the Alyesca tram is new to me and looks pretty cool, thanks.

We are planning to take a day to visit Homer, hope to catch some silver salmon, and maybe go halibut fishing. Our budget will probably only allow one guided fishing trip, so if we can catch silver’s from the bank, we will probably go Halibut fishing. We would also like to do some hiking, and hope to see some bears.

If any of you that are familiar with the area have any additional recommendations of things that we should see or do I would love to hear them.
One piece of advice for guided halibut is to consider doing it out of Valdez, because the prices will include processing/packing the halibut in comparison to going out of Seward (I will have to check out of Homer, but last I knew they did the same) where you end up having to find some1 from the dock. I would highly recommend asking about processing/packing before you pay for a guided trip just to make sure. It’s worth paying a little more to not have that hassle after you dock.

If you spend any time in Anchorage, lmk and I can give you some recommendations for food depending on what you like/need.

Girdwood is a good spot as Thinkingman said. Raven Glacier/Crow Pass Trail is one of my favorite hikes in AK.

If you fish out of homer get your fish packaged and frozen at homer fish processing. Don't use coal point unless you like supporting greenies who are trying to get hunting shut down in kachemak bay state park. All the guides I have seen out of homer fillet the fish or they have buttwackers do it. From there homer fish processing will come pick up the fillets or your can bring the fillets to their shop.
