Keeping stuff from freezing

It looks like it is the time of the year where coolers go from being used to keep things cold to being used to keep things from freezing. On our last elk hunt, water was still starting to freeze inside the cooler inside the vehicle by the time we left. I had an idea to boil water and put it in one or two Nalgene bottles with an insulted cover to put in the cooler at night. I assume this would work but was wondering if anyone had done something similar.

It’s the same principle as you stated, but warm the surrounding area as best you can and then wrap it with an old sleeping bag inside a cooler. Depending on how cold it is and how often you’re in the cooler, but it’ll usually last for a couple days before you need to reheat again.
