I don't think this is a risk to public lands since there aren't any major cases in that arena...for now. As a libertarian, I wasn't exactly proud that trump ended up with the nomination, but fully expected Ginsberg to be done and needed a conservative in office to protect the 2A and religious liberty. I'd never vote for a Democrat, especially not Hillz, but at any rate, all the news this week has been fantastic. Add to that the bat shit crazy stuff coming from Mad Max and I'm feeling optimistic about mid terms as well.

I would like to see a moderate conservative much like Kennedy himself. There is a lot to be said about balance on the court. The recent fourth amendment ruling is good example.

NO. THANKS. I'd much prefer a strict Constitutionist.

I don't understand how the 2 are mutually exclusive. The constitution is to be interpreted and applied to modern times. That is why we have the court from my understanding. There is also a reason why we have amendments. Its not a perfect document. Why can't a moderate be a constitutionalist?

You gotta be joking, but I'll bite. Conservatives love the Constitution. Liberals hate it. Moderates are in the middle. Liberals want to interpret the Constitution the way it pleases them, not change by Amendments. Conservatives know the only correct way to change the Constitution is by Amendments. Moderates are in the middle. There are three branches of government, Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. It's really that simple.

SMH at what has to be the most ignorant post I have ever read

On another note, while I agree with James that he is likely going to pick a more moderate conservative, I'd have no problems with him going extreme conservative. Because I haven't seen nor, have yet to be provided with an example that conservative living isn't correct and, for the greatest good for all involved. People preach the middle but, I have yet to see the benefits for the masses, our Constitution, and our Bill of Rights with middle of the road politics.

I am interested to hear what you consider "conservative living". I would also be interested in how you consider it "correct and, for the greatest good for all involved". Utilitarianism is actually the concept of the greatest good for all involved and is far from any GOP or conservative practice.

Conservatives are like "the adult in the room." If it works, don't fix it. Change should come carefully if at all. Conservative living is like traditional living. Some people think this is great, others think it's awful. It's debatable.

I'm a libertarian leaning Conservative and didn't vote for Trump. I was angry with the way he acted in the primaries. I didnt believe he'd do conservative things once elected, because he's a moderate or liberal on a bunch of things. I didn't vote for Hillary either. I was a staunch never trumper, until he won the election and have slowly been coming around. I hate how he talks and the idiotic things he says. However, he has accomplished a lot of fantastic things. I'll vote for him next time around. I'm his fanboy now!!

It is sad that a question has to be answered with "You gotta be joking..."

I'm sorry but I was shocked. I thought you were pulling out leg. Apparently you were not. No biggie we aren't born knowing everything, especially me.

Welcome aboard, Bill. I think most of us have had times when we loathed Trump's comments and/or tweets. But the simply fact is the guy is slowly but surely crossing all of his promises off the list. Promises kept!! When was the last time a politician (that wasn't hellbent on destroying our country like Obama) kept his promises?
If that wall get's built, And NOKO becomes a Democracy, Trump should be on Rushmore, and I'm not sh tting you. At this point Iran is very much in play for full blown revolution, that's another epic development the media is loathe to report.

Four " strict constitutionalist " on the court just shit all over the 4th amendment. Nothing conservative about that at all. Same can be said about citizens United. Too many of todays selfstyled conservatives as well a liberals are neither. What that are a party hacks that tow the line rather then look at issues independently.

Bring on Trey Gowdy.

Hes smart, well versed, well spoken, and holds the constitution as paramount. No matter what side of the fence you are on.

I have never understood how politics should play into one simple concept.......interpreting and ruling on law based on the Constitution. The liberals want the Constitution to be a "living Constitution".....one that changes with the times. But here's why the Founding Fathers had no intention of it being that way: If the Constitution had been intended to be a living document that changed with the times.........there would have been no need for it at all. If it's constantly changing, then the laws would already reflect those changes, be current to the times, and easily changed for new times. That's why they set it up the way they did. It doesn't change with the times. All laws and decisions should be based off of it as it was written and intended. Politics, political affiliation, or a nation full of reprobates aside.

Every issue is looked at on its own, and every issue has a "best, most logical" solution to that issue. In regards to our nation, every solution should also "be what's best for the nation as a whole", not just a select few or special interest groups. But I have never seen a liberal solution meet all those requirements. Just look at our immigration cluster. NONE of what we currently have has anything to do with being a conservative......and as such, makes absolutely no logical sense at all......and contributes to the degradation of our nation instead of being what's best for it.

I shouldn’t do this but I’m going to. I suspect you will send another barrister of nasty pms if you don’t like what I say. It, you asked so, I’m going to tell you. To sum it all up in some simple sentences versus pages of explanation, conservative living is personal responsibility. It’s based solely on biblical principals. But, defines ones role simply by saying render to those what is due. And take care of you and yours.

Conservative thought has been so misquoted and misrepresented, by purpose, for so long. It’s compasoniate, effective, and responsible. But, it requires humans to be something they are not by nature. Anything else is simply a political misrepresentation. This isn’t a republican and Democrat race. Quit confusing that. It’s a conservative versus liberal race

Side note for everyone, if the supreme court interests you AT ALL....I would encourage you to listen to the podcast "More Perfect". It's fantastic. Kind of has a liberal slant at times, but not enough to bug me. Highly suggest it. They cover all kinds of cases from the past and the hidden stories behind them, such as the time a supreme court justice literally went missing because a case was stressing him out so bad.
