Just Curious... how'd you like your NOMAD?

I was thinking about adding a top zip long pocket and then mounting it horizontally so the zipper would then be on the end, should be able to get into it then without unbuckling anything.

im curious to see this as well.....been looking over all the kifaru packs and frames, and am curious about the nomad. I don't like the idea of undoing a ton of buckles to get at anything, so an add on bag at the bottom along with the lid might be a good option. ive been going through all the videos on the kifaru you tube site. I will say this, the kifaru line is quite extensive and modular. My head starting spinning with all the different options....LOL

Hi Guys,

I'm digging this post up from the dead. I want to add a pocket/bag that is 600-700 CIs to the bottom of my Nomad underneath the batwings (also called the meat curtains by my buddy Gabe! ;) ). I like the setup that Rizzy has above in every way, except one- it sounds like accessing the long pocket while the batwings are still closed is difficult or nearly impossible, which totally defeats the purpose I've got here. So, what is the best solution for me? I could flip a side zip long pocket upside down and have the zipper on the bottom- that seems like a recipe for lost items at some point. I could use a top zip long pocket, but I'm not sure that'd work very well. I could use some other bag, pocket, or accessory that you fine folks suggest. I've looked through the options on the Kifaru site and don't see anything that quite fits what I'm looking for...

I also text Aron and haven't gotten a reply from him yet (I'm sure he'll get back to me at some point), but thought I'd post here and see if anyone has some brilliant thought.
Thanks much!
Scott

I'm probably outside the mainstream on this but I've grown really fond of running a pod at the bottom of my frame. A small fits better on my 24" bikini under the Nomad than a wider pocket. Releasing two buckles and the draw string gets me into it and it opens wide enough to see all the contents. I don't have to pull everything out and feel around like with a top zip long pocket or back pouch. I now have a dedicated small pod for all my hunting and EDC packs because they take up no space but are so handy when extra capacity or wet gear storage is needed..

I also really like my XTL lid on my Nomad if I don't need the capacity of the Longhunter lid. Both of these options give you the capacity you seek without getting in the way or having to open the "meat curtains".

I love my nomad. I could put a weeks worth of gear into it and still have the room at the bottom to add a pocket or pod. Absolutely love the nomad for my hunting needs. I use it for waterfowl, trapping, elk hunting, carrying treestands, etc.

I really like my Nomad as well....... now. It took about six months of working with it and trying different configurations for my brain to really click with the capabilities. Prior to that I thought about taking the easy route and selling it to go back to one big bag. I'm glad I didn't do that because at the end of the learning curve is pure gold.

The biggest complaint I hear about the Nomad is that it's a pain to have to undo the compression straps every time you need to get something out of the pack. Running a lid with storage, pouches on the belt, and smart packing solves that, just as it does with any other pack. My spotter/tripod stay attached riding between the wings and slide right out when I release the two lid buckles. It's entirely possible that the wings only need to be unbuckled to deal with a critter on the ground.

Pretty sure I'm going to have to run a Mountain Rambler against it just to see who wins.....:)

I run a side zip long pocket on the bottom. Very easy to access. For day hunting I often didn't use a lid at all. You can remove one of the main horizontal straps to give you easier access; just store it in one of the pockets.
