It’s cooling off in the mtns!

Nice! Has anyone gotten any picture of elk shedding velvet yet? Probably going to happen pretty soon.

I was hoping this camera would show some hard horns this morning.

Im doing my last regular trail cam check in a week. That should tell me when they rubbed

A guy in the unit I am hunting this year in NM posted a pic 3 days ago of a bull with no velvet. I was a little surprised and asked him about it but he said it was from this week.

I normally see their white horns in early August. Heck, we're close to a week out from what used to be opening day in CO, and they've always been brown-horned by then. Not a fan of this cold weather though. But I've seen frozen puddles around camp just about every opening day I've gone out in the past. And some years, the last 3 days and nights were the warmest I saw all season.

Been in the 40s at night here since last week.
Poached elk we found did not have pointed tines yet, still growing a bit it seemed, velvet still had lots of blood too.

Love it! Brother and I went scouting last thursday (going again tonight) and saw a bull already hard horned! Fall is here :)

Man. I would love to wake up to 37°. The last couple months of 90° days have really stolen my thunder.

I'm chomping at the bit to get some mountain time in.

I wonder if Western Montana has cooled off any, I'm still seeing 90's during the day when I check the weather. Been feeling like fall weather here in Pa with cooler temps

I have yet to catch a rubbed elk this year. Checked cams Sunday. Wallows are unused as well so far. In southern WY. My buddy and his wife had 34F on their truck in the morning 8/8 at just under 10K in southern wy

Last weekend. 6 point was hard-horned. Tough to see, I got good video, but the other bull has huge, bloody strips of velvet hanging off his bases. I have a video of these two bulls a month ago. It looked like the brawl of the century, except they never actually touched. Gotta protect that velvet!
