Looking to buy some binoculars from a member. Just checking if there is a good to go list of sellers. Would like to save the fees if possible and the person is vouched for. Some other forums I frequent have a list.

Thanks!

Use the feedback rating and the WKR rating. Even so, sometimes longtime great members get hacked. Best to have a 30 second video call to make sure they actually have the item and know about hunting and are not sitting in an Indian scam farm

We have been seeing more and more long time users get phished. If the user uses the same credentials here as the place that has been hacked or phished, scammers can get into their accounts here. Even with a user in good standing don't use friends and family, if its high dollar items I would call or video call.

Guys are hacking members accounts - I just got taken for $1500
Hacking is always a risk, trust but verify.

Get a cell phone number, text, call, FaceTime, etc. Ask for new pictures of some specific part. Offer to pay for shipping and get their address to check, which you will need for the return address.

If it is too good to be true, it usually is.

Did you talk or video call?
Video call is gonna be best so you can verify they actually HAVE the item. But even calling will be good - I’m convinced most scammers are not hunters and don’t know a thing about hunting. If you ask them some specific hunting questions they’ll be exposed. Plus you might detect an
“accent”

That’s number 3. If someone hasn’t posted much then all of a sudden something is for sale that’s a flag.
I feel like there has to be more I got taken aswell 2 years ago. I think 1700 guy even face timed the item just a scammer and didn’t show his face but area code lined up. Hope he got kicked I did send proof to a moderator. Next day my account was shutdown… Chatted with Ryan and got it lined out.

Buying is never perfect, selling isn’t either… I feel that rokslide has some of the lowest scam rates compared to other sites and forsure Facebook

Also never post your phone number on any of the ads. Those can be searched and be found on Google and now they can reach out to you via phone number.

I outlined the whole process in another thread. He offered to facetime and also was ok with a money order. Sent me a pic with username and date etc. I had actually made an offer a month earlier and he said he would think about it. Several weeks later he dropped the price to my offer price and reached out asking if I was still interested. Not typical scammer behavior…

Check his feedback. The best thing you can do is to contact previous buyers in his feedback and inquire of them by way of private message. That's totally acceptable from my perspective. Arguably, it's not just the rating, it's the ability to contact the other members which makes the feedback section so important.

Be smart. If you have a guy who has been on the forum for a year with, say, 5 sales. And he has a perfect 5 rating but they all come from 5 buyers just as new as or newer than he is, start wondering why that is.

Additionally, he should be willing to talk to you. I also tell new guys who wish to buy from me that they have my permission to publicly inquire on the forum as to my honesty/integrity/reliability etc.
