Is Swaro warranty slipping?

My hunting partner did a bunch of stone work for me so I bought him 8X Swaro SLC's a few years ago. He noticed some strange aberrations so he sent them in to Swaro. They had a cracked internal prism. By the time all was said and done it cost him almost $400.00.

The binos were never dropped and had no external damage at all. I can't believe a prism would break from normal use. Seems to me there was probably stress on it from original assembly. This should have been warranty in my opinion.

What do you guys think.

I am just looking at 10X right now. If Swaro is like this now I may buy Leica.

That is a hard one, I get you say it hasn't been dropped but if it was a mfg or assembly issue i'm sure it would of popped up 3 years earlier. I'm just saying from swaros point of view they probably know what will crack a prism and maybe a small percentage is from assembly or mfg but I bet more often then not they don't see that after 3 years and at that point it probably is something that happened. How many admit to their buddies they dropped that expensive of glass?

I get what swaro did, good luck with Leica, I've heard their warranty/customer service is the worst of the bunch.

Did he ask them why their warranty didn't cover the repair? That would be worth knowing. I'm assuming they said he had to of damaged them?

I sent my Dad's 30 year old green 7X35 Leicas I inherited in for a fogged tube. They fixed them for free, no questions asked. Seems like in this product category (Zeiss, Swaro, Leica etc) you better be pretty generous on your warranty.

Isn't that what Vortex is touting to break in? No questions asked warranty.

I just sent my spotter back to Swaro and they cleaned, inspected and replaced a bunch of things all for no charge. I was very happy with the whole process and honestly expected to have to pay for something or at least the return shipping.

Swarovski repair has been amazing for me as well as for several of my hunter/clients.
No questions asked and back in perfect repair.

Great customer service from Swarovski any time I have used them. Beyond great. Excellent.

I will say this much, if customer service is what you are after I'm not sure that I would move from Swarovski to Leica.....definitely moving in the wrong direction when it comes to customer service and warranty.

Swarovski service has treated me very well the only time I needed it. The issue was certainly not their fault in any way but they worked with me much more than I expected. I'm really surprised they charged your friend and can only speculate that they felt he had abused the binoculars and had damaged them through abusive handling.

What was the turn around time on this?

I have an ATS that's about 8 years old I've been thinking about sending in for a tune up...also been thinking about selling and jumping up to an 85mm, decisions, decisions...

4-6 weeks has been my experience.

Swarovski had been fantastic to deal with for me.

Swarovski likely felt there was more to the story.

Ive had my Leicas about 8 years started getting some grit in the eye pieces where they twist out, and the focus knob was getting hard to turn. They told me it could be around 800 or more. I sent them in anyways to go through everything. They said my lifetime warranty covered everything. NO CHARGE Yey!
