Is poaching truly this prevalent?

“No [insert illicit activity] is illegal on stolen land.”

I’m not a proponent of breaking the law, but that’s where our society is heading. Look around the next time you’re in public.

We’re (America), at best, complicit in, and adjacent to, war crimes across the globe while we (Americans) continue to vote for people that are a-okay with continuing to do it. Is jumping a fence to shoot the kings deer even registering on that scale of wrong? The older I get, the less I care about what Robinhood is doing.

I'm sure there are some bs and some exaggerated stories, but the 223 ducks article is proof that it happens more often than you think. Just think about how many times people get away with it. You think it's not possible to even kill that many ducks, and here is the example where they got caught.

I think you're wrong here because most of the stories and examples aren't just big rack bulls and bucks. It's does, cows, fish, and other examples that have nothing to do with bragging.

I've found spikes and forked bucks skinned out in the woods of our wma's that have antler restrictions. I've met people working on the road who have stories with obvious illegal activity involved. Numerous second-hand stories of using a rifle in muzzy season, crossing a fence for a turkey, etc.
I killed a buck in a wma many years ago, one of the first I killed on a wma. I wasn't familiar with getting the jaw out at that time. On the way to the check station, I passed the warden heading out and waved him down to show him the buck. He turned around and followed me to the check station and showed me how to get the jaw out. When he ran the jaw tool into the deer's mouth, corn fell out. I was shocked and like "oh chit". He's going to think I'm baiting(I wasn't). The buck was in cruise mode and could have came off private a ways away, but this was before any baiting was legal in ms. He said, "you're going to have to show me where you killed this". I gave him the spot, and I don't know whatever came of it.

I think a lot of the stories are older stories with no actionable evidence. Thats why people are willing to share them in the first place.

So what are you gonna do? Put on a camo or blaze orange cape and run around pointing fingers at every one and jumping up and down? Super Hero Fudd - here to save the animals and sport of hunting. Untrained law enforcement and senseless accuser of the hunting brethren.

When I was involved in a pro-hunting organization, some of the guys who didn't show up to the public & private meetings would call LEO on me. Was always the days when I seen a certain group. Bunch of crap, got to know LEO and had him on my phone too.

Yeah, some people are gonna break the law - drive much? Folks are free-reign and effing nuts.

The idea of living in socialism/communism with the people all pointing fingers and calling the authorities on their neighbors. It is a bad road to be on.

I just want to clarify that I'm on board with not caring about Robinhood. Not the rest of it.

"stolen land" not so much. Read history.

"war crimes" is all subjectional and based on specific time periods. Iran really pissed off Israel when those hostages were taken. No-one cared about that but now US bad. Eh. Lotsa senseless acts being perpetrated all over - Africa is killing Christians, China is doing it's thing, Russia & Ukraine are doing their thing, Iran recently killed 30,000 of its own people but who cares, right? Not for these stupid wars and don't like the inflation they create.

I do wish they would take care of the crimes against humanity - revolving door courts, 20 million criminals done crossed the border (it is illegal to do so), murder/rape/real life slavery/human trafficking/etc. And all we gonna be uptight over is if some guy shot a 5 pt in a 6 pt zone. People's priorities are messed.

In SoCal we had an “e-bike gang” of dudes ripping through hunting areas on e-bikes shooting deer. Deplorable

Everything going on in the world isn’t binary - this county good and other country bad. The only thing that holds true is more government power is generally bad for humanity. There’s plenty of culpability both ways. I don’t think leveling Gaza or a little girls school is ever going to be defensible.

I don’t agree with “stolen land” rhetoric either, but it’s all playing out in real time whether we like it or not: just look around.

If you don’t want to talk about world geopolitics, just look at our own government. We put Martha Stuart in a cage for insider trading. We’re moving to put a SOCOM guy in a cage because of his poly market bet on Maduro. How many congressional members, from either side of the aisle, have been prosecuted for the same thing?

A society begins and ends with the morality of the individuals contained within it. The leaders of that society can contribute to its success or failure, but rarely become the main cause. It's not hard to follow traffic laws. It's just not. Most people don't follow them though. It's not hard to read the game laws and follow them. Most people don't though. If the law says you need to tag your animal/bird immediately upon retrieval and you choose not to, then you poached. If a trail is closed to ATV/UTV use while hunting but you ride it anyway and harvest game, then you poached. If shooting hours for pheasants don't start until 10 AM, but you shoot one at 9:57 AM, then you poached. Seems to me that everyone is trying way harder to find a way around the law than just following it. If you don't like a law, then there is avenues to change it. But blatant disregard is not one of those avenues. I hear way too many hunters get cited for technicalities and then cry about being the victim. Just read the rules and apply them. If you don't like the game laws....then don't hunt. If you don't like the traffic laws...then don't drive. Simple. It's all about the broken window theory. Google it.

My dad watched a guy shoot a 6pt bull elk out the window of the pickup, off a state highway, during a season only open for antlerless elk. He called the county dispatcher to get the sheriff deputy who lives 3 miles away to come, no dice, “he isn’t on shift and the other deputy is 60 miles away”. Called the GW hotline, Lt GW who was 15 miles away said he’d get there when he could maybe, new kid was 40 miles away and laid the hammer down and got there in half an hour.
GW took a statement, dad knew the guy, had known him literally his whole life. Guy is a felon who was shooting a rifle from a roadway from a vehicle. LT finally shows up after a couple hours and looks around and says, “welp can’t prove anything and the bull died on trust land, oh well”.

So my old man gave up a half day of hunting the best part of the deer rut making a report and all that for nothing to happen. This was strike 3 for the Lt and his shitty attitude and performance for me and the dealings myself and family have had with him. The state office says he’s a great employee and aren’t interested in hearing otherwise either. If it isn’t on my place or directly involving me I won’t waste the time anymore.

Totally agree - it isn't binary.

I was surprised how deep the corruption goes and how far it spreads - worldwide. They protect their own.

That's the typical response. They don't really care or they have other stuff to do.

Take care of No. 1 is best we can ask for.

Let hope. I saw blatant poaching in 1999. I was living in AK and was sheep hunting with a bud. We watched a group of inexperienced military guys hike up and shoot and wound an immature ram. They were about two miles from a rare 'any ram' area in unit 11 at that time. They made no effort to hike into the treacherous country to pursue the wounded sheep, and he was illegal to boot. That unit was 'full curl' only.
I hiked 1.5 miles to their camp and confronted them. The shooter was badly bleeding from his scope-hit eye. He acknowledged the deed and said they'd try to get up there and see what they could.

I left to go home, but before I did I went to the Park Service (a group I despise) and told them. A ranger left to go figure it all out.
If no one says anything, nothing will change.

Look at the average persons driving habits/record and it should tell you a lot about how people respect the law/others.

DUI, distracted driving, speeding, rolling stop signs, etc....
