Is my optic to far from the barrel?

I don't understand why people want to use a rail on a T3X hunting rifle in the first place. Why not go straight to the dovetail?

I personally don’t like using a rail because I can’t wrap my hand around the action of the rifle to hand carry. With the Hawkins rings on my rifle, it carry really well. My thumb fits right between the scope and action, balance is perfect for hand carry.

The dovetail system combined with a good mount is so much stronger than a mount that just sits on top held down with a few puny little screws

Go exactly as low or high as is comfortable for you when shouldering your rifle.

The rest is aesthetics and doesn’t matter

I agree. The ring height should be based on comfort and how it fits your body rather than "how low can you go." The cheek rest can then be raised appropriately.

A rail with a few puny screws and recoil lug is going nowhere.
Rails give you much more flexibility when mounting a scope such as built in cant , scope location, and high quality ring selection.
Also nice to be able to take scopes off and put them back on with minimal change to zero. Assuming your using high quality rings/mounts.

I just put a vx-5 (44mm) on my t3x with Talley LW lows. Fits perfect and for a low recoil, "set it and forget it" rifle I'm very pleased. I doubt the 50mm would fit.
