Is my optic to far from the barrel?

Not sure why my optic is so far from my barrel all of a sudden. Upgraded to a VX3i 30mm tube and added back country Leupold rings on my T3x and the scope is significantly higher than before. No issues with Cheek Weld though (most likely because of the beartooth pack on the stock). Wondering if I should go low rings or leave as is.

What caliber is the rifle, what do you plan on doing with it?
Long range shooting, tree stand hunting etc.
I’m building off a tikka action with a VX5 scope. But mine is a very flat shooting rifle, plenty of vertical adjustments in the scope. I’m using Talley lows and that’s more than enough to get me beyond 1500 yards.

Can I go straight to the dovetail with the back country rings? They say they fit on Weaver or Piccanty style mounts only.

Talley extra low lightweights for that setup. Lose weight and get the scope down where it belongs. Sell your rings and rail to someone mounting a Hubble on a dedicated LR rig.

No. But I would use these on a Tikka:

Its a .308. Most shots will be 100-300 yds on white tail deer.

In all seriousness, I always go as low as bolt clearence allows, while still giving me enough room for a oil rag between scope and barrel (im old school and run an old blued M70).

Although i prefer my scopes mounted low, it makes absolutely no difference performance wise.
What matters is proper cheek weld. A stock with an adjustable cheek piece or cheek pad will get you where you need to be.
Keeping your scope low looks better though.

The Leupold rings and bases work fine for me on the Tikka.

Scope bases are like shoes. You don’t buy excess space, if shorter fits.
