Is a 6.5 PRC enough? Do I need a 7mm?

You have a synopsis you could share? I’m not a fan in general of the very few pieces I’ve listened to from those guys. Maybe this one is different?

“Carry the energy as far as possible” lol. I turned it off after that sorry.
Yeah ? I guess Jim doesn’t know much….

What does any it that have to do with factual terminal ballistics?

Just saying “Jim says so” is an appeal to authority fallacy.

He refers in the video that his input was from the Hornady family who was on a 5 day bear hunt with him. Think the Hornady family knows a bit? Combined with his decades of guiding and personally hunting he has tremendous credibility.

Again- that is an appeal to authority. Why do I need to “think” anyone knows anything?

The information about what bullets factually do in tissue is available, and it has nothing to do with a name or a family.

Sorry I don’t know what any of those accolades mean and I’ve never met him. I’m not interested in those types of things personally.

I’m a huge proponent of “use what you want” cartridge wise for killing. But when your “advice” for moose and bear is “300 PRC because only the military and hornady got to use it and it carries the energy” I’m turning you off my phone screen sorry.

If in person, we can have a good conversation about “energy” and maybe learn a few things from each other. That’s what I’m interested in.

Watch the video…he learned a lot from the Hornady’s. Dont assume
You think Hornady flew up there to educate Jim? You do know he is sponsored and paid by Hornady right?

After his Hornady sponsor visited Jim, he now needs a shiny new 300 PRC, burning 80 grains of powder, with 40lbs of recoil?

The OP's question, a 6.5 PRC is enough at about 20lbs recoil, shot placement, with a good bullet, it will pernitrate the vitals and put big game down. It is enough for big game and it is basically a modern 270 Win with higher BC bullets, burns around 60 grain powder, 120gr - 150gr bullets.

OK since someone reported someone for name calling, I had to go back through this thread and delete several posts from several people that were arguing, bickering, name calling, or just didn't even apply to the original topic.

Stay on topic, engage in conversation about said topic, stating your opinion for either side and keep it civil or this thread will unfotunalty be locked

You are being sold snake oil by rich fudd's dressed up like Ted Nugent...

Listen to episodes 469,470, and 479. Also check out tha 6mm/264, 223, and 6.5 threads on this forum for lots of evidence of "small" caliber effectiveness. Once you emerge from the cave and see that you were simply interpreting shadows of reality you will then be able to see the truth and base your actions on evidence based reasoning. We all have to make assumptions but when we have good data we need to use it otherwise the terrorists win. At the moment it appears your reasoning is purely assumptions and hearsay which is appropriate when you have insignificant amounts of data to work with.

A 6.5mm PRC is just a magnum 6.5mm Creedmoor.

It adds about 250 FPS of muzzle velocity -- at the cost of roughly 50% more recoil.

If you can accurately shoot bigger guns as well why not.
From my experience, that "if" is doing a lot of work and people just aren't honest with themselves. Everyone can make their own choices, but for me, my practice and shooting have gotten so much better since dropping down in recoil. After years of "the recoil doesn't bother me".

Are not all PRC of Hornady heritage? So he could have endorsed them all or none

This is an advertisement that appeals to a certain market segment. You dont hire a guy in snake skin boots to try to sell feminine European calibers like 6.5mm. Hornady is trying to reach every customer to include the suburban desk jockey cowboy.

Nailed it. They’re all paid to say what they’re saying and to appeal to each of their individual audiences. It’s all bullshit. They didn’t kill it with a 300 PRC. They killed it with a 200gr. 30 cal bullet going 2800fps. They’re just paid to say “PRC” or creedmoor or whatever is in their contract. It’s so blatantly obvious. People on TV or with large YouTube channels only say what they’re paid to say. They’ll use junk and tell you how great it is too, if that company pays them enough.

My dad killed a ton of really nice bucks. Using a 16 gauge shotgun with buckshot. While I like and respect Jim a lot, those awards don’t mean he understands the terminal ballistics of smaller cartridges.
