Heading to NM in a week and can’t decide which broadleaf to use. Both are dialed in to 60 so that part is good. I like the idea of a larger cut which should hopefully lead to a better blood trail but then I think about penetration! I’m probably overthinking but does anyone have experience with the wides on elk?

Thanks

Was just in New Mexico for my hunt. I heart shot my bull at 30 yards with a standard solid 150 grain and he went about 60 yards and crashed. I didn’t see any blood until I got right to him, but it didn’t matter. I lung shot my bull last year at 20 yards and pretty much had the same result, except I had a blood trail, but heard him crash. From the success I’ve had, I have no reason to go to the wides.

I'd go for the wider cut if they fly good. If your arrow weight and velocity are respectable, penetration shouldn't be much of an issue.

60lb Mathew’s v3x with total arrow weight of 485gr. Haven’t shot through chrono to know speed.

Either will be a great choice, you’ll be fine with the wide with your setup, for sure.

The original is no slouch either, if it were me, I would likely use the wide

Just tagged out with 100g single bevel at 95yds. Stuck him right in the heart. They are elk killers for sure…

I like the standard for everything. Plenty of cutting surface, lots of damage and fantastic penetration. And most importantly they are more forgiving making it more likely to hit behind your pin.
