Hoping you get access to the IG vid, really connected with my feelings of what my workplace had become.
Founded and led group for 16 years.
Covid beliefs ushered in new management.
Gave my 1 year notice 06/23 , partner meeting 11/23 issued Irish Goodbye.
Have been without remorse since that very day!!!
Life is too short to suffer fools at the workplace….

I took a job as house supervisor at a hospital a couple years ago. I knew the place had issues, but they were throwing big money around and I got greedy.

Huge mistake. I made it 6 weeks. Gave report to the oncoming house supervisor on my last shift and then tossed my badge in the trash and said “Let em know I ain’t coming back to this shithole.”

Close to an Irish Goodbye, I kept getting screwed over at my job. I would finish my assignment, then have to do the "slackers" job too while they were doing other things. They got promotions and raises, I got none. I got fed up and walked up to the boss. I said "I'm quitting!" He said "I need some type of notice". I said, "OK, I'm giving you a 2 day notice-I quit TODAY". Heard it somewhere before that, but it is very effective.

Leaving for a better opportunity two weeks notice is a nice courtesy to not burn a bridge. Exiting a bad situation deserves NO courtesy. Sometimes companies do give you a notice or severance to leave on good terms. Usually more of a career than jobs in those cases.

I once irished good byed a part time job and showed up two weeks later and just went to work. Boss barely mentioned it. Left on good terms later.

Juding by what I'm reading, Rokslide better be pretty lenient with time off during hunting seasons. Might get short staffed pretty quick if staff starts point dumping.

Always been someone to give a 2 week notice. But, when my wife and I got married, I took a job that was to pay more and I wouldn't travel as much. Worked there for 4-5 months. Terrible management, crap coworkers, terrible equipment. What the final straw was, taking a rig into WA state that didn't have a working brake on the truck, parking it on a hill, unloaded a skid steer off the truck and doing so pushed the truck over a curb and into a neighbor's RV. Worked a week later, in that time frame I found another job and that following Monday I didnt show back up.

Where I work now I have zero loyalty for. If I can get enough of my own work set up, or found a superintendent job tomorrow, id leave him today and not look back.

Im all for a 2 week notice, but. I have also learned companies dont always get that.

I put in my 2 Weeks with a busy Metro FD, when it should’ve been an Irish Goodbye.

The “Exit Interview” was the most rushed, formality thing I have ever seen. It was a Friday at 3PM situation with myself and 1 Deputy Chief (the rest had left for the week already).

I’m explaining my concerns and reasons to him (mold in Stations, moldy/piss stained mattresses, Apparatus with no working AC, bald truck tires, regular metal nuts rather than lug nuts on tires…)

I told him the Department I’m going to had cleaner work conditions, better pay, better work/life balance, better apparatus and they treated their employees better - In a more professional manner unfortunately.

Then Chief gets this smug look on his face and asks “What’s your name again?”
- Mind you, my name is on the top shirt I’m wearing
- He has my name pulled up on his computer in his files

The “Exit Interview” ended soon after and I have never viewed “Admin Staff” the same ever since. Unfortunately leadership in many FD’s across the Country treat their Operation personnel just like I was treated that Friday afternoon.

Did this once after 18yrs. Hit my limit one Friday afternoon. Came back to the shop late again because of poor planning. Everyone had left for the day. Cleaned out all my stuff from my locker and work truck. Came in first thing Monday morning in shorts, tee shirt and flip flops. (Heavy equipment construction job) went up to the boss gave him my shop keys and company phone, said Im done with this place. Turned around and walked out.
Was such a great feeling! Never wanted to burn a bridge with any job, but sometimes its best to completely destroy it. Had a new much better job by Wednesday. Guess I shouldn't have waited so long.

And, by the way, I always find it annoying that good workers must pay for the crap decisions of those in the C-Suite.

What does that have to do with quitting w/o notice or being let go effective immediately?

And if you had to let go a dozen people, would it be better to do one on one and have hours of turmoil and create secondary and tertiary problems in the process?

It's easy to armchair quarterback if you've never been the one in charge.

We live in different worlds. And for that I am thankful.

Oh, and I have been the one in charge. So don't think I have never had to let people go. been on both sides of that coin.

if you don't approach every tough but necessary decision with humanity you have lost a great deal in the process.

I'm sure as hell not getting in trouble for not responding fast enough on a day I took off And letting my boss think it's okay with me

Last two jobs I interviewed for and got i was pretty blunt. I hunt and if I get drawn for a tag im going weather I have vacation time or not. Both places asked when kind of notice I would get if I got a tag and I told them 2-4 months. Both said they'd make that work. Even after I told them if I get drawn for a once in a lifetime hunt im gone until I kill, season ends or i run out of money.


Previous place let a guy take 4.5 months off to hike the AT with his son, so there are good places to work still.

I’ve always told my employers that a PTO request equals a notice of absence, approved or not.
