Interest in a fly fishing forum section?

Redington is to Tikka what Sage is to Sako.
If you can't put a good cast on a fish with something from the Redington line, a Sage isn't going to help you.
I have a lot of Redingtons but I’d probably have to say Echo is the tikka of the FF world. Redington has gone a little haywire lately (case in point the one pictured above.) But I do agree that if you can’t do a decent cast on a cheap rod you don’t have any business buying a Sage.

I've learned a lot on RS about gear and hunting, I think it'd be interesting to see the collective Rokslide knowledge on fishing/fly fishing. Maybe that'll motivate me to try flies some more, lol. For now I'm still in the camp that favors 'shiny spinny things and whack em in the head'.

Fly fishing has been one of my obsessions for most of my life but I have never participated in a fly fishing specific online forum because I find it boring to talk about fly fishing. For example, tying flies is fun but talking about tying flies is boring. I do read a lot of fly fishing books but they are mostly adventure and story driven narratives, not technical analysis of gear, knots, flies, etc.

Yeah but plenty of info to share. We don’t only discuss bullet weights when it comes to hunting.

Sage hasn’t been Sako in quite a while, IMO. I think it’s hard to compare the two, because honestly there is much less to go wrong on a fly rod- and much more room for preference on a fly rod as well.

That said a lamson liquid is the Swfa of reels. 🤣

I think if we have a new subforum it should be fishing in general.

High risk of spot burning. Already can’t find water to yourself out here these days.

The same argument can be made for hunting. Yet rokslide continues to survive. Reality is there isn’t much to spot burn at this point anyway. You can find it if you look hard enough. And the big ones like Yellowstone or gunnison aren’t exactly secrets, although some like to pretend they are

This has been asked a number of times since 2012. Specifically a fishing forum. Hasn’t ever gone anywhere.

Darn. Seems there’s plenty of interest for it. As well as several grumps as to be expected on rokslide. Always eventful lol

I will say, fishing is way easier to spotburn than hunting. If someone posts a photo of them fishing in my area, I can probably put a pin within a half mile of them. Hunting, not so much. In a given area you might have 10,000 acres of woods and 3 miles of river.

That being said, just don’t be stupid.

I mainly muskie fish, 90% with gear but occasionally with a 10 wt and large flies.

Something tells me rokslide will be all about the 2wts though.... Its the tippet not the line.... and nymphing for esox
