Let’s Talk Watches

I’m now in the market for a “dumb” watch. Looking at field watches, really just want something durable and simple preferably with a date. I see a lot of recommendations for Hamilton field khaki. Anyone have experience with those or any other recommendations?

I wear a Timex Expedition with a six dollar stretch bracelet I got at Goodwill.

The watch was a return on Amazon so $40 for both. It's about 0.5 second slow per day and seems to be pretty tough. I wear it everywhere and it gets washed multiple times a day.

Some day I will get a nice watch, but for now this looks nice and is functioning well.

I love my pro trek triple sensor. Solar powered so no battery changes. Ridiculously durable and I can check things like altitude, pressure changes, sunrise and sunset times and directions without having to rely on any computer updates. I have no need for a smart watch as I’ve used this for 5+ years without a si no or issue.

G-shock is the nicest budget friendly you'll probably find. There are a number of variants for them nowadays.

Next step up from a G-shock is probably a Suunto Core
Then you start getting into "smart" watches like Garmins and other models of Suunto

I purchased a Hamilton Khaki Field Auto earlier this year and have enjoyed wearing it. Seems to nicely straddle the line between a “nice watch” (for most of us) that can be worn with office attire while still being casual and not too flashy.

No plans for now, but in the future I’d love to get a vintage ivory dial Rolex. Something like this with the leather strap as well.
