I don't think there is a lot you can do other than watch how much time you spend in cover that can cause the issue. For that, you might try a different pattern through the cover to cover most of the same terrain with less running for the dog.

This was from deep snow and weeds, so no way to prevent pattern-wise.

Maybe I’ll keep the bag off the next buck I kill and have it tanned hair-on for a dog ball bag.

Vetericyn spray a few times a day. Easy to spray on and cover the area and doesn't sting.

Vet here:
I'd use bag balm or a good healthy schmear of Vaseline pre-hunt. The Vetericyn/Gentamycin spray would be fine after the fact if there is a lot of scrotal inflammation. You could also have your vet fill some Carprofen (brand name Rimadyl) for use after the fact if a lot of inflammation present.

If you tan a deer scrote, send pics. I'd recommend not cinching down too tight. Blue balls for real
