Inreach failure

I have had the orange one (Explorer +) for a few years. This weekend I was 137 miles offshore and couldn't turn it on because the rocker switch wouldn't work. Fortunately, a buddy had a satellite phone that we used to check in with our families that were expecting a "we're OK" message during our overnight trip.

It is worth noting that this happened once before but then the button started working so I didn't do anything about it.

Today I contacted Garmin. For $220 they'll send me a replacement.

Thought I'd post this in case anyone else had gotten their first warning and ignored it like I did.

Not really related to mechanical failure, but I stopped telling my wife I would check in daily and said I would only use it if I needed help of plans had changed from what I had told her before.

I found that with messages being spotty at times it added more stress if she did not hear from me, and stressed me out, not always being sure of my message went through. I still message her occasionally with info, but not a formal check in type plan. I find it help both of us to worry less so she can focus on what she is doing at home and I can relax and enjoy my hunt. Just my 2cents.

Mine did the same thing but was deemed to be a software issue? I had a new one overnighted and I had 14 days to return mine to them. Free of charge. Garmin customer service is spot on IMO.
