Ineos Grenadier 4x4… what do you think?

Well obviously not lol. I’m just saying in a short term “tough” use review, they seem cool. Saw one behind me the other day and looked pretty neat. I’ve always been a sucker for defenders and rovers though. The old ones. Not the new ones. I’d be willing to buy one to play with but for now I’ll keep my Braptor!

The Broncos are cool and all....but i wanna know more about those stainless looking cabinets with windows behind them...I could use a few of those in my life 🤔🤣.
In all seriousness though...these Ineos things may be capable enough off tge lot for sure. If money and potential down time waiting for parts are no object then I guess sure, why not. From a practicality or long term ownership stand point, I dont think owning one would be a very wise or enjoyable experience. I cant imagine being hundreds or more miles from home in the boonies, having a break down of any sort and trying to round up parts for repairs would be any sort of fun even with a run of the mill rig, much less a novelty like these things.

I dont know as much about European vehicles as those who specialize in them other than there arent many worth owning outside of warranty period from a practical/financial stand point.
I have never seen anyone in my small sample population over the last 22 years that has bought one used that would ever do it again.
What I do know for sure is finding parts and anyone that is willing to work on odd ball European vehicles in this country outside of major metro areas is extremely slim pickings. Even there its tough to find and aweful expensive.
These things are just a novelty for the semi wealthy and those who feel the need to be different. They make ZERO sense from a practical standpoint in my opinion.
Maybe OP will buy one and beat it off road and daily it for 7 to 10 years and itll be the cheapest to own, most reliable vehicle they have ever had...Ill check back then and eat my words if Im wrong...highly doubt that will be the case though.

Its too bad they don't offer the BMW Turbo Diesel motor here as they do in Australia for the same price...

even though it doesn't even come close to the Fuel mileage of the Toyota HiLux diesels

My brother and one of his sons are into Land Rovers. Damn things are always breaking down and being trailered across the country. They love fixing them. I love having cars that don't break.... Another brother got sucked into their orbit and is regretting it as he lives 2000 miles away from them and they are not closeby to fix everything that breaks down... $2000 to fix AC. And it is ALWAYS breaking down

Also somewhat surprised the Ineos has never been brought up here on Rokslide since there are endless discussions on many other truck and 4x4 brands like Toyota and Ford.
Cons-
Expensive
Low resale
Fragile
Unproven
Very limited OEM support
Very little aftermarket support

Pros-
Looks cool

View attachment 918858I want the Quartermaster on portals, but thinking it needs a Cummins 12V swap.
Agree on engine swap... apparently the BMW engine is supposed to be proven since its been around for years and even Toyota (the best of the best in regards to quality reputation) puts the same BMW engine in their own Supra model).

When researching the truck, I always thought something like a Cummins or some other diesel would make a lot of sense. Unfortunately since we are in the USA, we can't get the diesel version of the INEOS like in other parts of the world.

Agree on desire for towing and V8... but unfortunately this isn't an option anymore for 4Runners and Land Cruisers with the dinky four cylinders in the new models. The seat issue seemed to get worked out. The 2025s that I looked at had the Recaro seats.

But I share overall concerns you mention as well regarding long-term support vs established brands (part of reason I wanted to bring up here on RS since hunters are generally hard on vehicles.)

I was not super impressed by the Houston sales people I dealt with when I test-drove last weekend. If I buy, I'll probably go through Sewell in Dallas or San Antonio since my past experience buying two other cars from them has been really good especially when it came to ease of buying and repair/warranty support.
If you do buy I would buy it at a place that had the best deal and has the best service department. You’re only going to spend a few hours with the salesman. You’re going to spend years with that service department. I was raised and worked in the new car dealership world as an adult. I no longer do. All vehicle makes and models require repair and maintenance. So you will be using that shop and interacting with service personnel. I recommend focusing there not on that salesman that will be gone two months.

Cool looking vehicle. But Sadly I am old , practical and lack any courage. So for my 70-80k I would stick with
a more popular manufacture who has service dept and support across the country. They all suck so I would pick the more convenient suck….
What ever you do I hope you enjoy the hell of it on your big and daily adventures.

If I had unlimited funds I’d buy one cuz it’s cool, since I don’t I wouldn’t!

Reviews I saw folks didn’t seem to care for on road manners.

Buy an old Land Cruiser and build it how you want it, save 45k and have a better rig!

after being lifelong Landcruiser guy...I have a Grenadier...no regrets. The guys from Overland Journal did a video series in Africa...a fellow named Ronnie Dahl in Australia has done a bit with Grenadier and just bought his own Quartermaster.

I can get into as much of the details as you guys want regarding some of the comments made on YouTube and by others...both good and bad and clear up any confusion as to what it is or is not.

Nobody has posted the story yet so here's what I read (I'll try to find the article):
Ineos is huge European oil/gas/chem company. The owner of Ineos loves old Land Rover Defenders so much that when they stopped making them, he literally bought the production line and started making his own version. This is not some startup car company. This is a rich guy's pet project. So, you get a trimmed-down vehicle (feature-wise) for the price of a luxury vehicle, because that's what this guy wanted and that's the price they have to sell for because they're kinda boutique.

Are they capable? Probably. Are they cool? Yeah. Are they a good long-term value proposition? H3LL NO.

YEs there is a backstory....that guy that owns Ineos Chemical was pissed that Land Rover went away from what got them to where they are. Canceling the Defender for a number of years. He asked about being involved in an updated Defender as either part of their umbrella or buying the rights/tooling out right and standing it up himself. They pretty much told him F-Off. So he got with the engineers from Magna Steyr for design....Carraro did the axles and suspension...and of course the tried and true B57/58 engines, transmission...with Tremec transfer case, etc.

Rugged, reliable, capable...absolutely. Long term viability....I think very possible given his deep pockets and while yes he is rich....he is a purpose driven person and wanted a modern interpretation of the beloved Defender while keeping its capabilities with some modern twists.
