Here in tn. If you are legally hunting deer , you can harvest a bull or cow elk without a tag if it gets off the elk reservation:) all you have to do is contact a fish and game Biologist to come and assess the situation before you move the carcass:)

Elk are considered exotic in Texas, and can be hunted/killed year round.

I have had them hit my guzzler and feeder incidentally, but never when I'm actually in the area and would be able to hunt them.

Usually only seem them around for a day or so and then they move off for a couple of months.

Elk typically divide off in little herds and travel a circle! At least that’s what I noticed in timber Oregon ! A huge herd of the largest Roosevelt elk, that hung out in the safddle mountain preserve had small herds (6-12) that would leave the big herd and come through our small town 25 miles away! We would notice 2-3 diff herds come thru a week

Same thing in Virginia. You can kill an elk that is not in the Elk Zone. I think someone killed one 2 years ago. Its too far for me to try to hunt the fringes unless I took a long weekend to scout and another long weekend to hunt
