I’m stumped tuning.

I have a reign 7. 72 lbs set on performance. 30” draw. 30” Easton axis 260. With 75 grains brass and 100gr tip. It’s in time. I’m not new to tuning but by no means am I Dudley. I can’t seem to get a 1.25” nock low tear to correct. I have moved rest down, nock point up, tried a 125 tip, and tore it down and started from scratch twice. Am I missing something or what?

I would move forward in your tuning process and confirm what issue you may or may not have, before I went crazy. Sounds like you have done everything right? Personally I have shot bullet holes though paper, thinking it was the quickest bow set up ever, only to find out in the next steps (walk back/broadheads tuning) I wasn’t really that close.

Should be good on fletch clearance. Qad hdx is my rest. Yeah I might try going forward and see what happens.

What is really driving me crazy is there’s not much change in the tear no matter what I move up or down.

I doubt this is your issue and I know paper tuning can be frustrating at times, but for reference I had a similar issue.

I had a high right tear that I couldn’t get to go away, didn’t matter what adjustment I made, it was high right.

After some googling and reading, I was determined is was the spine of my arrow. The archery shop said I should shoot a 400 spine. After an hour debate with the pro...we did some shooting and it turned out it the 340 spine shot a lot better out of my bow.

For whatever reason it just didn’t like the 400.

I had another instance where my QAD rest was slightly out of time and it wasn’t clearing my arrow quickly enough causing the bottom tear your discussing.

Truth is...if you feel like you’ve done all the adjustment you can, it might not hurt to hit up the local archery shop.

Sometimes it’s good to just talk through the issues with them. I know that doesn’t help solve your problem immediately, but it’s all I can offer.

Good luck to you and I’d be interested to hear what the issue turns out to be.

This is a tough one. According to Dudley's chart you are at the edge of spine for that shaft length/weight so maybe it is that (try dropping down to 60 pounds to see what happens). Or it could be a form issue in terms of grip and the angle of your pull (up or down) if you are shooting with back tension. Or it could be nock pinch at a long draw on a short ATA bow, I assume you are at 30-31 inch draw with a 30 inch shaft. Are you tying in nocking points above and below and leaving a gap to compensate for the narrow string angle? I'm guessing you have already confirmed the rest is operating properly? You said it is timed, but where are the cables in relation to the sync dots (i.e. could the cables be different lengths but still have stops hitting at the same time?) It might be dumb to ask, but have you confirmed both discs are on the same side and same holes and they correspond to the draw stops?

I have the same bow and it tunes right up for me, but I'm at 28-28.5 draw. I heard somewhere that these bows don't tune as well at the top end draw lengths but I have no first hand experience.

Keep us posted and good luck. I am totally neurotic about starting with a perfect tear so I feel for your situation!

I had a similar issue last year and it ended up being my grip. I had gotten a new bow and needed to adjust my grip a bit. After I fixed my grip I was good to go. Like the pokorn28 said if your local shop isn't to far and you trust the guys I'd go in there to pick their minds. That's what I did and I was back in actions immediately and tuned better than ever

If anything I'd say he's closer to over-spined than under-spined. I'm shooting 75lbs at 32 1/2" draw and my 30" .300 spine arrows tuned up perfectly, better than the 200's I was shooting. I don't paper tune, I go straight to BH tuning. I start at 40 to verify where everything is hitting and then go straight to 60 to tune. Even very minor adjustments show up quickly at 60 with BH tuning, so it's harder to chase your tail than with paper tears.

I would put some lipstick on the edges of your fletching and check for fletching contact on your QAD. I shoot an HDX as well and can usually see from the felt whether there's contact or not. But you can also use an Iphone with the high speed camera to video the shot and then play it back frame by frame to see if they clear the prongs.

Everything else you can fix through BH tuning.

Good advice above.

In these cases its always better to start with the easy stuff...then advance through the different steps. Sometimes its you and not the bow; your grip, gripping on the shot, etc

I would check my rest timing and center shot first. [those rests need to pop up late in the draw]

Then contact.
Then play with my grip/form.

No...then start playing with timing

Well men I think I got it lick. I went ahead and re timed my qad (and I was good on clearance). And I put a half twist in top end. And that seems to have cleaned it up. Thank you guys for the help.
