"I'll take it" and then ask question later or "I'll take it pending PM", etc. is horse-shit. Kick the tires if you want but Ill take it means just that. Word is bond, else nothing is.

What about being the first one to post “I’ll take it” then finding out they sold it on another site?

If you are selling elsewhere I think its only fair to mention it when listing. Frankly i rarely cross post if I do I will mention it in the listing.
Yes. I prefer an “I’ll take it” on the listing instead of by pm. Either one means the same thing tho.

To clarify, I have historically just replied on the thread that I sent a PM inquiry, sometimes saying "I'll take it", sometimes asking questions, or sometimes making an offer. I have done a fair bit of buying and selling here and am very thankful to be able to do so without fees. Just missed a few good deals lately because of a follow up question despite being quick on the trigger -- hence the post.

I said in my original post that saying "I'll take it" then hitting the seller with follow up questions seems slimey and agree with everyone not liking it. As a seller, I personally don't mind the "I'll take it pending...", so it's interesting to see everyone think that's not reasonable. Or maybe people think it's fine but doesn't "save your spot" in line?

Yea that’s bullshit. I posted “I’ll take it” on a listing here and sent seller a pm immediately requesting his payment info. Didn’t ever hear back. He posted 8 hours later on the thread that he sold all items. I again PM’d him asking what’s up and he informed me he listed the items here and on Facebook(without noting that in his listing) and went to bed(in the middle of the day). Sold them to the Facebook people. Probably best for him and I not to do business so I thanked him and moved on. Not saying he was wrong to do that, just not my style.

I'll take it!

Ok, let's see what this thread is about. ;)

What the hell, man? You didn't send a pm for payment info??? Your word means nothing, and you just missed out on the deal of a lifetime just sayin

I think word play may be taken a little to seriously. I mean if they back out is it really that big of a deal?

But I use and understand an I'll take it as it's a smoking deal I'm not arguing and need payment info.
To me PM sent means I have a question, and it is also a reserved 1st position to buy the item pending the answer.
If they don't want it no biggie I'll just reply to my thread it's still available and update the op with the answer to there questions incase someone else does.
I go down the list of time stamp pm and thread reply all inclusive.
And sometimes when I'm at work some thing comes up and I don't have time for an immediate PM follow up.
It's just selling gear on a forum.
As long as you're not getting screwed on payment or on what you bought, it not really a big deal in the grand scheme of what's happening in the world.

The is the only forum I’ve seen where people think they can say “PM sent” and they think that gives them a right to buy the item ahead of someone else. Every other forum I’ve ever been on, you post IN THE AD “I’ll take it”. That seems to not be the norm here. All you ever see is “PM sent”........well that doesn’t mean shit. Every seller can manage his ad the way he chooses, but some of the stuff here would get you banned from selling in other forums. The first “I’ll take it” posted in the ad should trump any/all other PM’s.
Curious why it needs to be posted in the ad?
Don't see a difference in 'I'll take it' in a pm vs in the ad.

I’ll take it is used to say you will take it. Sometimes the AD isn’t clear and things are misrepresented or not fully disclosed.
I have asked follow up questions after agreeing to buy something then Backed out because the ad had no details (not here thankfully). I’ve also sent payment then asked questions and wasn’t happy with the item but kept it because it was a good price and I knew I could break even at least.

item isn’t sold though until money is paid, but i have no problem giving you a day or so, and I refuse to take a higher offer to sell it right now.

“I can get ones like yours all day for $200”

Well then, why don’t you?

LOL

There is always a low ball offer. No harm in asking but the guys who try to argue it get put on the full price list.

Flip side is asking for the new price on a used item. So much of this going on folks automatically do it and get grumpy when a "reasonable" value is offered...

I just take the emotion out of it, first one to pay gets it. I don’t really deal with low ballers either, I’ve stopped negotiations more than once when people start nickel and diming me on already good deals.

Bingo. If I am selling something the item is available until it is paid for. If you ask for my PayPal info and I send it over, I expect you to get it paid within a few hours. If you are expecting to be tied up when you ask for my PayPal info, then simply say so then...."I'm working the night shift with a quick turn around back to the swing shift. If I get a moment I'll send the payment, otherwise it will be in 48 hours"

I don't have to sell to anyone I don't want to, and the only commitment I am game with from a stranger is payment

I've done this a bunch of times. Ill commit to buying it because I know it's a good deal, then ask follow-up questions because I have no patience and just want to know more info. I'm still committed to buy it, I just want to know more info. I'm particularly bad on this when buying guns... haha

When I'm selling, I'll typically go down the list based on timing. If the first person interested has questions, I'll try to address those before moving on to the next buyer. I'm not generally in a huge hurry to sell an item, and I think it's fair to give a guy who might have some questions an opportunity to buy the item even if he isn't able to monitor the forums constantly. At the same time, I understand as a buyer that if I have questions I might miss out on the item. Which kind of sucks, because I might commit to buying an item I have a question or two about just to avoid missing the opportunity. In either scenario though, it's not usually a really big deal to me.

On other forums Like Bladeforums, where people are there primarily to buy/sell, they run it a little more strict in the classifieds, which I prefer.
•No comments like “nice knife, good luck on the sale!”
•No “ttt” or “bumping to the top”
• I usually listed a knife with
“Prices are; shipped by USPS to the CONUS, Paypal fees included
First “I’ll take it” followed by quick payment gets it.”

This prevented international transactions that in my experience were a pain in the ass, with customs and much longer shipping times.
And many times I would have someone post I’ll take it, and then 12 hours later have another person ask if it is still available and get me funds immediately, like I said in my post followed by quick payment.

I bought a stock here saying “I’ll take it” without asking about inlet, just assumed it was for short action. It wasn’t.
Previous owner said several other guys wanted it, I posted it back up for sale, It sold again within an hour.
I learned from my mistake...
