If you’re shooting 60#, what’s your arrow weight?

I have 60 pound mods on my V3X33 and the limbs bottomed out giving me 61 pounds. My DL is 28.5 and my Easton Axis 5mm 340 arrow is 420grs total with just a 100gr broadhead shoots at 273-275fps.

Shooting 55-60# w/ a 28" DL. Arrow (for elk) is ~475grs. Bow is not super fast (Elite Terrain / 325 IBO).

Current setup: 340-spine Easton Axis 5mm + 125gr Iron Will fixed blade + 50gr HIT insert from Ethics Archery.

My primary hunting mentor is a trad guy, so I lean toward slightly heavier arrow setups + penetration-focused broadheads, but I am also always wary of committing to any extreme.

I'd love it if I could shoot higher poundage for a slightly flatter trajectory and slightly shorter flight time. But my current setup tunes well with broadheads and allows me to practice more frequently and with better technique. As a newer shooter, those latter two are my main priorities for now.

Bowtech Solution SS
62#
30" draw
470g 13% FOC arrow w/ grim reaper micro hades

I'm around 260fps and very much interested in a lighter arrow and more speed, it's primarily for whitetails in the Northeast

Recently got back from Africa and shot my RX7 Ultra 29"@60lbs shooting a 420 grain arrow going 267fps. Shot a Kudu and Wildebeest with Slick Trick Viper trick and a Zebra and Impala with a 1.75" Sevr no problem. Only blew through the Impala which was the smallest, arrow was sticking out the other side of the Kudu quartering away, Zebra and Wildebeest had one hole, they all went down fast. I think, like many others, broad head selection is the most important thing for penetration.

I have 75 lb mods and my ego sort of wants to put them on prior to hunting season but I cant really think of much need for it.
Yeah, I hear ya there. When I bought my current bow this past fall, they only had 60# mods for my draw length, and I haven’t bought the 70# mods, and don’t see doing so. I don’t see the need, and I like how easy it draws, and I can shoot as long as I want and never get fatigued… I am liking the 60# mods, and the performance gain isn’t that significant in the real world for me

Now my arrows are built and bow is tuned, I’m certainly not changing anything now. It’s drawing 63# right now, and is just pleasant to shoot, and has a lot more steam than my recurves

Now, if there was a way to increase my draw length a couple inches 😂 that adds up a lot quicker than draw weight

I did gain 1/2” of draw length on the lift vs any other mathews I’ve shot, so that pretty much makes up for a few extra lbs of draw weight, I don’t know what changed or when it changed, but I shot a triax and chill r @ 28” and the lift fits me correctly with 28.5”

Pulling around 58-60 lbs and arrow weight is 440 gr. I wish it was faster but it has been working.
