I know the Maven RS1.2 is really popular here.
I know that Nightforce is also popular.

I was curious if any had ever compared the Maven RS1.2 to a Nightforce SHV in the 4-14 with the MIL-XT reticle

It looks like they are of similar price.
Was just curious as I'm working on getting another rifle and Optic this coming year and I want to go MIL instead of all my MOA scopes.

Nightforce is 3.5 ounces heavier
Reticle for a strictly hunting rifle is a bit better in the maven and less busy with the mil xt being a Christmas tree style and having .2 substensions.

Both of them are good scopes. It just depends on what your use case is. On a hunting rifle I'd say maven, on a crossover rifle you might shoot nrl hunter or something like that with, I'd say NF

I own an RS1.2 Mil and a SHV F1 Moar.

The eyebox on the Maven is way more forgiving than the SHV.

Both are missing an integrated throw lever. The illumination function is nearly identical.

The glass is good enough you are splitting hairs to find a meaningful difference.

The Nightforce can be seen in person at lots of big box stores where maven cannot.

The SHV is objectively probably slightly worse but there is a warm fuzzy because it says Nightforce on the side that comes with a multi decade track record that Maven still has to build.

Would like to hear your opinion on these as I know you have extensive experience with both as well.
Biggest reason for looking at the Nightforce for me was just availability.
I know the Maven is somewhat hard to catch in stock with its popularity.
I have quite a few Leupolds that I am working on selling to upgrade to something better

Im interested to hear the feedback also. Currently looking for a new scope for my sons 6.5cm and I was just contemplating the same scopes or another trijicon.

To me it boils down to reticle preference and visibility. The reticle on the Maven is more visible, especially if you compare both at 4x. That said, personally I prefer the cross center and illumination of the NF over the floating dot and lit pin prick of the Maven, that’s subjective tho. The Maven also has a zero stop, the NF does not.

You don’t want the mil xt reticle. Especially on a hunting rifle where it recoils. All that a tree does for a hunter is makes spotting your impacts more difficult.

Mil r if you must but I’m not a huge fan of that reticle either.

I don’t have experience with the maven. I have had a bunch of nx8s and shv scopes and the F1 with a mil R is something I can make work for a long time yet.

1st- skip the Mil-XT for hunting. If things for range use only, then whatever floats your boat. But? The MIL-XT is not the reticle for general hunting. The Mil-R is the “best” hunting reticle NF offers.

For hunting and most shooting, the Maven is objectively better suited due to the SHR-Mil reticle being better/more visible on all powers. It’s also lighter and smaller. Other than size/weight and reticle, in use they are similar.
