Idaho Spring Bear

Call the regional office before you go and ask who can check bears on weekends. Sometimes they allow sporting goods stores to collect the tooth sample and harvest report for them.
That’s a great idea, I think I will do that and extend my hunt another day. Thanks

The bear I deemed last fall my target bear was out when I went up the hill to glass after work yesterday. grass is greening up pretty good and the forbs and early flowers are starting to bloom.

Hopefully the weather stays nice and I can shoot him when I get back from work this week.

Snow level on the exposed stuff is 3000’ above the river here. He was 1000’ above the river on an east aspect.

I went for a drive the other day, and at least in Eastern Idaho, the snow levels look to be about a month ahead of schedule... but greenup levels seem to be about normal for early April... and super dry, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. My worry is a lot of typical south facing spots that usually hold early green grass and bears will be too dry to yield much...

What was the overall elevation the bear was at, and what was the overall elevation of the snow level.

Well elevation doesn’t mean a whole hell of a lot as some people are hunting down south of the Salmon River and elevation is generally lower North of the Salmon.

I’m in the Clearwater Region.

Bear was at 2800’. Snow line on the exposed unsheltered aspects is somewhere in the 4600’ ball park for the most part. Where I was it would have been a 3 hour trek for any person that’s in shape to get to the snowline given steep terrain and all the trees that are down on the ridges. Still a decent amount of snow on the North Aspects above 4000’
