I’m looking at unit 18 and 23 for spring bear. It’s directly across the snake from where we bear hunt in Oregon. Any insight would be appreciated.

Both units are solid choices. Great opportunity for spot and stalk and combination of low to high elevation.

Looking at Unit 39 for my uncle and I's first spot and stalk bear hunt but east of the river where tree density won't be as heavy. Any of you on here have good knowledge of densities on that side of the river? Plan is to hike 3-6 miles from roads to set up camp for 5-6 days.

Looked at a ton of of other units and a lot of good information on here. Just overwhelmed by the options. Not asking for specific spots but any insight would be appreciated either here or in a PM!

Looking at a taking the Cessna into the Middle Fork sometime around the end of May or early June. If anyone's local to the Boise area, I'd welcome a cost splitter! Probably make it a 2-3 day hunt/scout trip. Usually a good way to get in deep before all the access roads open.

Someone better jump on that, that's a good way to see that country before all the access points open up. I'm up by Challis, I only go to Boise when work makes me lol.

I figure if I'm going anyway, like-minded company couldn't hurt! I saw some good sign where I was last year, but pulled no triggers.

Barring some late storms, we haven't gotten the same snow levels up this way as last year. I know we need the base for water, but the deer and elk need a break after 2/3 bad winters.

I've never baited and it's not likely since I'm coming from out of state and only there 8-10 days. I had luck in PA with calling in a bear with a screaming rabbit and was curious if anyone has had luck with any particular calls in ID and what they were.

I called in a few Idaho bears with a Johnny Stewart Variable Pitch call (the one with the little rubber button that lets you vary the pressure on the metal reed). They came in running as long as I was blowing the call. I shot one at about 10 yards. I also had one come into a cow call (diaphragm) while I was elk hunting.

Thanks. I'll check those out.

Does anyone know anything about Unit 43? I'm planning on going in there hopefully early June, but most likely mid-late June.

Great info in this post! Thanks to the OP for sharing - answered a lot of my preliminary questions. I'll be studying more to narrow down an area and hopefully will be helping you with predator control soon (and helping me with freezer filling)!

Anybody flying into the Frank? If so, I would enjoy a trip report. Others can add trip reports also but the Frank is high adventure.
