Idaho Spring Bear

Nice man! Way to go! What's the stats on the rifle/load? Looking to go 6cm or 22cm here soon so curious.
Thank you!
Tikka with McGowen barrel. 16", 7.7 twist, #7 contour(medium target), and DD Wolf Hunter can all in a KRG with CredoHX.
I just shoot the factory Hornday ELD-M 80 grain loads. They're leaving the barrel right around 2930ish. Pretty happy with it. Just wish I went with a light contour. This one is definitely on the heavy side, especially when hiking camp in 6 miles.

Congrats to those that have filled tags! Went out this past weekend with no success... way too much snow to get high enough for good glassing. We will see what the next few weekends hold for me!1000010387.jpg

how'd the 22cm do on a soft skin bear? lot of blood? long/short track job?
Worked great. She was on an open hillside and my buddy recorded it on a spotter. Tumbled right down and we were able to see exactly where it went. Didn't really need to pay attention to any blood trails or anything.
Tiny pinhole entrance good chunk of bloodshot meat. Didn't recover the bullet. Might still find it when I grind the meat tho.

Spent a few days in Central Idaho where I hunt, anywhere from 3k to about 6k in elevation. Ran into quite a few hunters, nobody had seen a bear yet. Everything about 6800’ and up was snowed in still which limited access severely. The trailhead entrance to the Frank was like a mall parking lot… I counted 17 rigs, lots of non-residents.

Up north you'll be lucky to make it up past about 4500ft even on the south facing slopes, I imagine everything on the north side is all still snowed in.

That being said my little dude and I made it out and about and spotted a pretty decent looking chocolate colored sow(?) at about 3500ft about 750yds away tucked into a steep north cliffy face. She looked like she was hanging tight where she was, I imagine that she denned somewhere nearby.

We will see if we can go turn her back up this weekend maybe.
