To recover the budget loss for eliminating non resident tags would probably be under $250 total for resident for both deer / elk.

Quick cost break, definitely missing some stuff but how much more could it really cost?

Elk tags 12,815x652-‎ = 8,355,380

Licenses totals 12,815+14,000+1500‎ = 28,315

License cost 28315x185‎ = 5,238,275

Deer tags 14,000x352‎ = 4,928,000

Deer tags 1500x352‎ = 528,000

8,355,380+5238275+4,928,000+528,000‎ = 19,049,655

19,049,655/200,000‎ = 95.24828

$95 more per resident if 200,000 residents are buying tags

Try to raise it $5 and watch the dudes in the restaurant loose there crap

2020 was the last year I came and hunted with my brother then it went crazy I’m not waiting on the computer and I could have my brother go buy a tag but he’s got better stuff to do than wait around for that .Might apply again if it goes draw don’t know if it’s worth it to me blowing a week of vacation to go elk hunting anymore. The real elephant in the room is the massive resident population increase it will have to be dealt with at some point.

Just out of curiosity is this Control hunt that you apply for: <1% or 5-20% or 25%+ (if there are even any with such high draw odds) type draw odds? That makes a bid diff

You can go 0 for 8 on 25%+ odds.

Absolutely. I’ve Not drawn in 80%+ instance before.
And if truly unlucky, one could NOT draw 0-8 even with 25% odds. So I was genuinely curious. Cause in that case he’d be very unlucky.
But Not drawing once in 8 years let’s say sub 5% for example is a different story

For me a draw is probably better just so I don't have to deal with the online waiting room sh*t show. I hunt quite bit here in OR and I apply almost everywhere else so i never go all out to get ID tags.

It will be unfortunate for the guys who put in alot of effort and for residents buying tags for non res friends/family.

Odds on some are not great but some are pretty good. Elk Deer and Bear. not always the same hunt.

As a resident of Idaho. I would gladly pay double if it meant there were less people in the woods. I understand that not every sportsman can or would want to do this.

If it’s a great hunt, the odds will quickly make it a once in a lifetime if that experience. In Colorado lately there are plenty of guys waiting 10-20 years for tags and not having a great hunt.

Just wait. You got to give it a few years of people thinking and then realizing that taking it to a draw didn’t help. Then they will start to push for point systems.

Aside from a system like Nevada every other state with a point system is desperately trying to find a way to get rid of it without pissing off those with a lot of points. I can't imagine any state would ever adopt a point system after seeing the disaster they have become in so many states...
