I think western hunting is a fad that will eventually die down, it has gotten popular with social media and shows like meateater going on netflix. Duck hunting blew up when duck commander was a popular show, duck hunting now seems to be less popular than it was 10 years ago.
We get hit with another recession like 2008 and people can’t afford to come out west to hunt then the insanity will stop.

Nothing other than Dads waiting in line to buy a tag, and to get our sons tags. We did not buy tags for others and were not paid by our sons to get their tags. Yes, it was cold and miserable, but we get to hunt with our boys next Sept.Wow, that's crazy. Wonder what's going on there? The tags can't be transferred except in very limited familial circumstances. Must be friends/relatives helping to hold places in line, with the actual purchaser showing up right before the door opens.
How would you define "family" and how would one enforce it?Hopefully Idaho F&G sees this;
You have many people getting paid to wait in line and buy tags for others. You have created an illicit market for this.
Its an easy solution;
Allow residents to buy tags for family only.
Non residents can either buy a tag in person or online
Having non res will boost the Idaho economy as the avg non res will rent a car, hotel room and eat at restaurants

No worries.....it will all change next year.
Then people can bitch about that process.

Dedication and people getting paid to buy tags for others.
I think it will backfire on some guys when they have a hard time collecting the money from the guy that had them stand in line. When Idaho G&F starts getting calls like, "I bought this tag for a guy I have never met and now I'm out $700 on my CC, can I turn it in?"....IDFG will figure it out their system is getting scammed by people trying to make a buck.
Solved by Committee? Their Committee on Non Res tags is a bit of a joke from what I hear....my source says there are no Non Res on the committee.
Its easily solved, My advice to IDGF;
1) Do the online and in person sales.
2) Pay the vendors a little more or let them add a small surcharge- my guess is they lose money on these transactions
3) Make the in person sales purchases by Residents for non res family only
4) Make non residents be there in person to purchase.
That would not only solve everything and ADD to the Idaho economy. After Flights most guys go out to eat multiple times, have a few drinks, rent a car, stay in a motel, buy stuff- they could literally add millions to the Idaho economy in one day.
I do know last year when some one posted on here a "backdoor" method to check and see if you got your tag before the results came out. It was shut down pretty quick, so don't think they aren't watching. I don't recall if that was ID's LE draw or some other state.I doubt IFG is monitoring forums.

Why is it that those that won't put the necessary time and effort into getting a tag never accept this response?Too hard? Too bad.
Great to hear that the tags went to you and your sons. I think that's exactly how it should happen. Good luck on your hunt next year!Nothing other than Dads waiting in line to buy a tag, and to get our sons tags. We did not buy tags for others and were not paid by our sons to get their tags. The reason I ask is because arent these being purchased at vendors...so you would be asking cashiers to verify the legitimacy of those documents.Provide birth certificate for kids or marriage license for spouse plus your own personal ID (passport or drivers license).
Too hard? Too bad.

Why not just limit it to yourself and one person ? I’d be ok with that……versus an out of state guide or instate guide buying 20 tags for his “clients”.Provide birth certificate for kids or marriage license for spouse plus your own personal ID (passport or drivers license).
Too hard? Too bad.

It definitely went way down after the great recession in 2008. IDGF actually had to reduce the cost of second tags by $100 because they couldn't sell them. You could buy them Thanksgiving week, no problem.Based on actual numbers, it seems you are correct about the decline in waterfowl popularity. Anecdotally, most everyone reports the opposite experience which is likely explained by ever-decreasing availability of places to hunt.
As far as Western big game, perhaps you will be correct, but I've only seen the trend go one way in my lifetime.

Man, those were the days! Had some good years with 2 elk tags and 2 deer tags!It definitely went way down after the great recession in 2008. IDGF actually had to reduce the cost of second tags by $100 because they couldn't sell them. You could buy them Thanksgiving week, no problem.
