Agreed on the justification being weak. Wyoming has an archery fee also. I believe its $75. The government will get everything they can out of the tax payers. Which is all the archery endorsement is. Just another tax.

Sign of the times. Hunting public land has blown up with social media, youtube and companies promotions. States are getting paid off the increased interest, that simple.

I completely disagree with the insane cost of tags these days. Increasing tag costs and license fees is a punitive measure, in my opinion. If game management or resident overcrowding complaints are the issue being addressed, then a better solution is to reduce tags for NR's or manage the game better. Also, how about Increasing predator management efforts if the game numbers are dwindling. You can even let hunters pay for that right, assuming it is a reasonable and non-exclusionary fee (not what is described above). These thoughts represent solutions that are not a punishment to the population paying for the resource, already.

As a community, hunters almost pay a separate income tax in trying to maintain points and or apply for tags these days, and yet, western states only increase the burden on hunters, and somehow fail to allocate taxes that we already pay to offset these absurd costs. I am totally aware of all the obvious arguments and historic whining on this issue, so I don't need any reminders on the topic. We, as a community, really need to push back against these increases and hold our public officials accountable. If we don't, what kid is going to be able to afford to hunt in the future? Or have the opportunity??

Additionally, the whining from residents about non-resident hunters on these forums needs to stop. It is such a tired argument. Provide a solution. Encourage your legislature to limit NR tags, if that is your legitimate concern and or provide a viable solution. The fallback position of "just increase costs" is infuriating, and a complete cop out. Weak policy solutions like that will lead to the demise of our community.
That's exactly what Idaho did. Reduced tags and raised prices. US population is exploding, game numbers are dwindling. There is no option to keep prices the same. Supply and demand economics.

Yeah, I guess I'll sleep in my truck instead of getting a hotel one night... lol. I read the justification for it. Seems weak but whatever. I'm just glad I didn't get checked by a warden and then cited. Would have been total ignorance on my part.
Like I said...dont forget your archery permit.

Correct me if wrong, tag numbers have not been cut, yet. Tag number distribution has changed in order to reduce over crowding in certain zones.

So I have never purchased one. Went and researched and found this.

So I hunt pioneer zone, OTC during archery. So I think Elk Tag A. However it is not archery only because I can shoot a cow with a rifle within a mile of an agricultural field, or return in November I beleive with a muzzle loader and shoot a cow.

Do I need the archery permit? I guess I need to call and ask.

If you are hunting that unit during the archery season with archery equipment, then YES, you need an archery permit

Simple.....Supply vs Demand.

The demand for these tags is so high they can bump pricing and still sell out....or close to it. They make more money for the same resource.

Thank you!

That's what Eric Chesser got busted for and a bunch of people acted like he should get hung as a poacher.
I think it pretty week dick they dont just include it in the price.
I think it just a bs way to hang people. Or they would have an asterisk next to every meantion of archery in the regs.
Coming from Oregon I almost missed it myself.
I think only reason I noticed it was I was trying to see if they had a let off restriction.
We buy and archery or a rifle tag.

Ohh btw in ID if u pick up a muzzy. You need a muzzleloader permit as well.

It should be easy to set up the website to make it a requirement to add the archery endorsement to the cart with any archery tag prior to finalizing the purchase.

MT and WY do the same thing with archery permits. Don't even act like it's just Idaho doing this. Chesser got roasted because he's been hunting Idaho for years and he knew better.

If you try and purchase an A tag that is an archery only tag it used to make you add the archery stamp to your cart before it would even show the list of A tags that were archery only before you purchased them.
