All you have to do is look at the bonus point system in place in WA and it would be a resounding NO.

You’re not getting a tag bonus points or no bonus points in Wa due to the simple laws of supply and demand.

It’s the same a Drawing a bull tag as a NR in Nevada, points or no points the odds are horrid.

It’s true though, once you have points and a schedule, you usually end up with extras along the way just due to scheduling.
The only state I couldn't draw right now is NV, and that's mostly because of the stupid 5 choices instead of first and only choice.

That's why ID system right now is so stupid, it's like NV 5 choices except you get as many as you want when you are on the clock. Not to mention how much abuse there is in the buying of tags.

Make ID first and only choice for NR tags, none of this multiple choice BS

Agreed, the 5 choices is dumb.

My other unpopular opinion (yes I have my nomex underwear on) capped tags should be draw instead of the current shitshow.

Wouldn’t communism be everyone gets the same opportunity no matter the amount/time put in?
Are you advocating for non capped OTC? Everyone would have the same opportunity…and it would likely be prevalent of little to no quality. We’ve seen how that’s played out with elk in Colorado.

There currently is unlimited resident OTC for deer and elk in many units. He's talking about the controlled hunts.

Yeah, but ultimately it doesn’t matter controlled vs OTC. Residents will complain of non resident hunter crowding whether the data supports their claim or not. That is the trend in nearly every western state-hunter crowding with the finger pointed at NRs.

Point systems are broken whether they are a bonus system or preference system as shown by the overwhelming opinion that the OP’s pole shows.

The biggest problem in Idaho’s current system is the lack of party hunt ability by NRs coupled with the abuse that’s happening with people buying tags for other.

The likelihood that I personally hunt Idaho in the near future is slim since I live in NM but I would certainly hate to see another state go the point route.

If it goes to a vote and that’s what the majority of residents want, then cool but what’s the benefit other than the Game & Fish getting more revenue? IMO, the only benefit outside of that is a warm fuzzy for residents to feel like they got one over on NRs.

Or make it a draw so you can hunt with your party if you draw.

I know more than one person who’s gotten one and there partners haven’t.
If they were real partners they would go with whoever had the tag anyways.

It’s pretty rare multiple people are ever successful. The extra tags are usually wasted on making them feel like they have a chance.

We fill hanging trees every year in our elk camps. When we’re serious about it, we fill 50% (sometimes more) of our elk tags and everyone who hunts has an opportunity over a week.

We all help on oil or great tags, but otc or otc adjacent tags only the tag holders go typically.

The NRs complaining about the current NR otc tag system may just be what leads to points across the board in Idaho. NRs aren’t going to accept buying licenses and/or apps without anything in return on unsuccessful apps. Also, IDFG only allows a max of 4 hunters on a group application. With coordination, a group of 6-10+ NRs can all get the same otc tags with the current system.

My personal opinion is that the current system, as is, is great.
