ID Big Game Draw

Wow, speaks volumes. I guess file that under "where there's a will, there's a way"....

Things heretofore unspoken for $500, Alex....
That wasn’t even half as bad as the outfitters with their notebooks full of credit card info buying 50 tags for their paying customers before they ever even went online.

Don’t get me started on the dudes who buy Wyoming points for everybody they’ve ever met so they have a phantom buddy to average their points with for group apps every year.

All the systems have exploitable weaknesses and they all get exploited to some extent.

I have 5 browsers open during the capped tag sales. (which should be draw as well)

There was no reason to be affected by those guys. If you went where those guys went, you were in the wrong place. I had pick of any tags I wanted to buy every year. I never missed out on any tags that my buddies wanted, and I never spent more than 4 hours in line, and even then, I could have shown up 2 hours later and had the same results. I usually spent less than an hour in line.

People just flat out refused to do the research and put in effort to get tags. It was so much easier to whine on RS, FB, etc.

The financial transaction from the hunter is completely separate from the IDFG transaction, by the way. It doesn't matter how soon or late the vendor ran the card. The tag will print without a payment from the hunter. The hunter then owes the vendor. Also there was nothing any vendor could do to get an edge in IDFG's computer before the sale started at 10 AM aside from having a single hunter logged into the system.

Huh 4 hours plus 2 hours in line. That’s great that you got in line early for a Middlefork tag.
And yeah if you didn’t personally call all 459 vendors and see if they were already working with an outfitter then measure the population density around that vendor then bribe them over the phone and drive thru a blizzard thru 2 mountain ranges to buy your tag in person your just a lazy slob not doing your homework🤦‍♂️

I never saw anything shady between the vendor and buyers. The guy running the computer would surely have been fired if he did anything like that. I also never saw an outfitter. As for the population density in the area, it's the highest in the state.

It was 2 hours and multiple guaranteed Sawtooth tags.

Reading your comment, however, does shine a light on the fact that some people will foolishly put in energy into a plan that should have been apparent will be fruitless.

I’m not going to argue about something that’s been brought up numerous times on here about first hand accounts of members seeing these things in person. It obviously got changed for a reason. Time will tell if it’s better or worse.

Those people used a terrible strategy. Had they done some research, they would have figured out how to get tags every year.

I could’ve paid to fly to Idaho or paid someone to stand in line for me and got tags every year. I could’ve bought a gas station in BFE and had my one employee sell me a tag. I could move to Idaho.

That doesn’t mean the system wasn’t completely broken and being exploited by the people with the most money and connections.

I don't understand what your gripe is. It sounds like you had the means to get tags but made the choice not to.

One could always claim the system is completely broken. The system now involves a license purchase and a lottery without preference points. There are no guarantees. The new system isn't a remedy to ensure that the tags are fairly distributed. The only thing it accomplishes is making some people happy because they now know that others that put in the work are no longer getting tags every year.

We had a system for NR OTC deer and elk tags, the last in the west, and now it's gone.

Did people abuse the old system to get tags? Yep! Will people try and exploit the new system to thier advantage? Without a doubt.

Beav, your posting smells of sour grapes. "Put in the work"...my, my the scenarios that conjures. "Where there's a will, there's a way"....sorry.

Many of you guys were gaming the sh! t outta the system without a doubt. And hey, there may not be a single thing illegal in that process! Kudos in fact for exploiting all you could. If I were an average NR (meaning: not one versed on every loophole tactic) I'd be pissed though for the state of ID for allowing this kind of stuff to go on for so damn long.

Your posting is exactly why many are glad for the proverbial 'dice throw' of the new system. No bullsh!t.
One pair of dice! Not eight pair thrown at once!

Last thing I will say on this till my next tag. My biggest regret is not buying a lifetime license while a resident. Any resident would make a Big mistake not buying it, as you never know what may occur in life. I have several friends and a brother who bought it decades ago, some don’t even hunt, but they have the option.

I can see the feelings on both sides of this. I kind of like the idea folks willing to take extra steps to get a tag could do so but understand it wasn't necessarily equitable for everyone. It will cost more to apply now right? I'm not a fan of that.

It's been pretty easy to just avoid the shit show and hunt in states where your tag odds are more predictable. I'm guessing the combo of cost to apply and odds of success will be enough to deter many of us from applying with the new setup.

Sucks for a relatively small number of folks who could show up in person or had friends/family/money for someone to get them a tag.

Could have been fixed with no in person sales, no multiple logins.

Draw is nice to be able to get a party app in. It’ll become predictable.

Guys like to know their odds, and will jump in once a few years of draw odds are out.

Odds will slowly but surely go down just like the rest of the west.
