Anyone use Ibex merino base layers? Their stuff is 100% merino and I'm curious if there is really any difference between brands if the material is all the same. They are also having a pretty good summer sale currently and it looks like I could get a mid weight top and bottom for about the price of one or the other from one of the big names.

I see the different weights but beyond that is there much difference between manufacturer A or B when it comes to 100% merino? I understand the cuts and configurations will be different but how about durability, warmth, stench control, etc?

Thanks for the insight.

It's 100% merino. FirstLite and Ibex are at the very top of wool quality in my opinion. I've tried quite a bit of the stuff.

I'll preface by mentioning I haven't owned all the major hunting brands of merino. I own Ibex U-sixty short sleeve tee and really like it. Keeps me warm, but cool (love merino) and is very soft next to skin. I think icebreaker, Ibex and FirstLite feel better next to skin than my Kuiu 145, but that's just me and others disagree. Almost all of my layers are Kuiu, except for my next-to-skin base layer (Ibex). I am 175# and a Medium in most shirts. I definitely wouldn't consider my Ibex shirt (medium) athletic cut/fit, but I'm not complaining. I would recommend it to a friend.

I'd say that durability (poor) and odor control (great) is going to have little separation between major brands. Warmth will depend on weight of merino. Color, price and feel will very between brands. Most merino starts to peel a bit with time and washes. Hope this helps, Good luck.

It's quality clothing, I have a couple shirts and pull over for everyday wear. Nice quality stuff for sure.

Have an ibex hoodie that I wear almost everyday. Top shelf stuff

My co-workers and I use so much Ibex that we have a corporate account. Most of our issued logo wear is from them, plus all the wool we buy personally.

There have been a couple losers, but by far the majority has held up great (by merino standards... wool isn't as durable as synthetics for sure) Quite a bit of it is made in the USA, and I have some Canadian pieces too. Some of it even comes from USA sheep. The line changes a lot from season to season and year to year, but I've gotten some great jackets and some heavier sweaters from them, as well as the usual base layers. Also got a nice heavy set of wool pants from them last year that saw quite a bit of winter use.

Yk
