If you are going to go with 140 Accubonds, they have been tough to find instock. I switched to 140gr E-tips over 4350 but will be trying new loads over CFE223 and possibly Superformance

Ok so no 139 sst's or 140 accubonds at cabelas. If you guys were to pick between the 140 ball. Tips or partitions which would you pick? I'm leaning towards the BTs

At risk of making some of you think of me as even more of a liberal enviro-hippie, one thing to consider when using ballistic tips or SST type bullets is the lead contamination of the surrounding meat. Minnesota DNR has some good data on this. I've gone exclusively to copper bullets for several reasons, this being one of them.

Certainly keep things in perspective, but also remember that lead stays in your body for 20+ years.

Ballistic tips personally but I'd just get online and find some SST's and pay way less. I don't find Nosler anything to be a good value.

the 150 ABLR is WAY too long for that little case - I'm seeing mostly 140's advised and THAT is where I'd go as well - Varget / H414 / RL-15

The 162 A-Max fits just fine in many rifles so I believe the Accubond LR would as well, but without having one to measure and compare to an A-Max I can't guarantee they fit in a Savage short action. The basis for my recommendation was that he mentioned 7-08, elk, and long range in the OP. For one single bullet to cover those three paramaters the 150 Accubond LR would be my choice.

My Wifes rifle is the Savage model 11. It shoots incredibly well. I have only tried Varget because it shot so well. The 120 gr. Ballistic tip at 2990 fps., the 140 gr. Ballistic Tip at 2945 fps.

IMO the BT of either version is tougher than the SST. They do less meat damage.

For elk I have a load on 139 gr. Interbonds and 140 gr. Accubonds.

If it were me I would shoot the 140 Accubond and call it good. They do great on elk and deer.

Good luck!

My wifes 7-08 likes varget and h4350. H4350 gets the nod with 140 grain berger. Varget for any thing lighter. It is a savage model 11 youth package gun. I took the cheap scope of... These groups were shot bye her. She just started shooting a few months back.

Any one ever try barnes 140 ttxs? For the 7mm-08. I picked up a 12 pack from cabelas. I am thinking these mite make good elk medicine? I would really like to try 140 accubonds. I have had no luck finding them. What is every ones opinion on the 140 bergers for elk? My thoughts were deer and goats for them?

I have a load with 140 VLDs at 2820 fps. I will be out with it looking for black bears on the hill sides. I haven't shot anything with it yet but I believe it will do fine.

Do u have a custom or a factory rifle? i have a tikka and was wondering how the burgers would be in the mag and if they would need to be seating out farther to shoot and not have to single feed.

The 140gr Bergers are not all that long. About .005 longer than the BT's if I remember correctly. You will probably have to jump them though as the nose is longer and the ogive father back.

It's a custom M700 rifle. I am jumping the VLDs .080 to fit in a standard BDL magazine. Groups are in the .4s on avg.

agree with shrek. Ive killed a bunch of deer with BTs. got alot of exits even. only argument for a bonded bullet on deer sized game is less lost meat. I left a few to many shoulders in the woods with BTs so switched to accubonds

The 140 bergers are not really that long. I just got the 12 pack of barnes 140 ttxs. And they are way longer to the ogive than the bergers, No need to single load in a savage. They fit just fine in the clip. Aboltlrhunter they could shoot well at mag length? If not their is only one way to go. Witch is shorter. If U are shooting a tikka? Put a long action bolt stop in it. And replace the mag with a long action clip.
