As for me, I’m going suppressed. And I’ll enjoy itThe sheer amount of ignorance, refusal to learn, and denial in the population at large on the topics of hearing damage and concussion and the simple methods of prevention of the same is mind blowing. Wow. You see the same nonsense with parents in youth sports.
Nobody looks tougher because they ignore this stuff.
I hope that you lie to yourself as well as you do on here. Wait until you can not hear your wife tell you that she loves you or your girlfriend tell you that she will do that thing that your wife will not - then get back with me. I'll wait.Me too.
Ugliest thing ever invented.
I’d rather drive a mini cooper.
Despite what we thought in the 1990s, the internet is not exactly making people smarter. It’s just become a place where stupid ideas get affirmed by other stupid people. The sheer amount of ignorance, refusal to learn, and denial in the population at large on the topics of hearing damage and concussion and the simple methods of prevention of the same is mind blowing. The noise doesn’t bother me. The concussion does, so even though I might be shooting my braked rifle as well, if a guy sets up directly adjacent to me with a brake, that’s usually the end of my range day. Fortunately, at my club, that’s a rare occurrence.Wasn’t long ago that all my rifles wore them and I didn’t understand all the bitching about them. My attitude was that guns are loud so I just doubled up on ear pro. Fast forward to shooting suppressed a bunch and then going to a rifle or two with a brake and I now have very little tolerance for the concussion because I no longer see it as a normal thing I need to accept
AND you don't have to lug around a rifle with an extra 10 inches of metal hanging on the end of it. My hunts sometimes last 3 or 4 days, and lugging a "can" around through brush, etc for that entire time is a pain. Whereas a brake doesn't add anything to the length or weight, and you only have the discomfort of the muzzle blast with one or two shots, which I can mitigate with quality ear protection. What I'm saying is, I will keep my brake, Thanks. If I hunted primarily from a stand and didn't have to hump mountain trails with my rifle, I would prefer a can, but when I do have to carry it for several days from sunup to sundown and the possibility of never having a shot at game, I prefer not to have to factor in the extra weight and length of the suppressor.Yeah that ain’t happening with a 9# 338 Norma Improved pushing a 275 grain bullet at 3100fps, with a suppressor at least.
I can spot shots past 500 with a brake.
You do realize that every time you have a little ringing, that is permanent damage, right? You may think that ringing is going away, but the damage stays and eventually so does the ringing. My left ear started doing that in my mid-40s. In my mid-50s now and I say “huh?” and “what?” way too much. Having a conversation in a bar or a restaurant or a stairwell is really hard. Wish I had suppressors about 20 years earlier.
And there you have it. No further discussion required as some dude on the Internet said it is a non-issue.
Free country. You are welcome to think what you want. My post was intended to be helpful. I might be older than you, but didn’t say I was smarter. If I was my left ear wouldn’t be having such a good time without me. All it ever says to me is “Weeeeeeeee!…”Kind of like all you sheeple that think it's the zombie apocalypse and the world is coming to an end because of muzzlebreaks.
Apparently I hurt your feelings when I said a muzzlebreak didn't have the impact y'all pretend it should have had.
Afterall, this thread is about validation in using suppressors. If it were so right, why the need for a support group and thread rant? You big-issue "internet dudes" have it all figured and out and are right 101% of the time. My bad.
Do yourselves a favor and do some research of your own on the impact that natural frequencies have.
Where was RS at 35 years ago to teach me everything I needed to know about anything because of a bunch of "dudes on the internet" parroting the same narrative; caliber selection, suppressors and "ear pro", bullet design, the hogwash on energy, footwear, scopes, first aid, investing, careers, you name it.
I love RS and the intolerance it has on differing opinions.
But then again, maybe I'm more concussed with brain damage than I realize...![]()
“Feelings…. Nothing more than feelings…”And I'm un-following this post. What a bunch of fn divas. Oooo F your brake! A guy can shoot what he wants, it's a free country(kinda.....well not really)

Since I’m the OP, I need to correct your statement. I did not in any way start this thread to validate suppressor use. When I started this thread, I hadn’t even purchased a suppressor. I knew I was going to buy a suppressor, but that’s not why this thread was started. I started it sorta being dumb, but with an honest complaint about the brake on a Tikka 6.5 PRC that I was working with for a family member.Afterall, this thread is about validation in using suppressors. I was at a local range last fall and a couple guys showed up with one of those. They insisted I shoot it. I honestly don’t understand why so many think that is so fun. Plus couldn’t hit a 24” target @ 50 yards but I know that is about technique and practice. Absolutely brutal concussion. Ear muffs over plugs ain’t enough.I had one next to me at a 100 yard indoor range some guy had on an AR-10. Even with ear plugs under muffs I had ringing and a headache the next day. I’ll leave the next time. Brutal.
Well, it’s YOUR girlfriend. Ask her if I can’t hear her.I hope that you lie to yourself as well as you do on here. Wait until you can not hear your wife tell you that she loves you or your girlfriend tell you that she will do that thing that your wife will not - then get back with me. I'll wait.
C’mon guys. Huge difference between a leisurely day at the rifle range with your 6.5 prc and combat. Been there, done that more than once. You don't want to see evidence. This link is the first result from a google search for "muzzle brake brain damage"

"They think it’s hilarious"I try to avoid indoor ranges as much as possible. But there is one right next to my office so I will sometimes go there for load dev on my lunch break.
Most days nobody is there, but some days I will get put next to someone with a 8” braked ar pistol and it is downright obnoxious. They think it’s hilarious
