I hate muzzle brakes!

@huntnful is the sole buyer of any long barrels these days.
Lmao 🤣. I get them all to myself hahaha. I actually have a few 24” barrels I just ordered 😔. I guess that’s growth…. Gross lol.

For real though. If I could use suppressors I’d have 20” barrels and blazing fast 22’s, 6mm’s, 25’s and 6.5’s.

For big 7’s and up and probably stick with 26” barrels and brakes if I felt like using them.

I've always ran brakes (ya, we make ALOT of muzzle brakes). I got my first can last year and ran it hunting. Still ran brakes for comps last year. This year I haven't shot a match without a can.

I also shoot a lot at my house and to avoid my neighbors wanting to kill me, I only shoot there suppressed. (we also do the Unknown Suppressor testing at my house).

That being said, its nice not having all the concussion. I have a can with a brake, which does make it slightly louder, but not too bad. I can shoot it with my air pods in with no issues.

I don't like the extended push in recoil that the suppressor has, but if you build a solid position and are square on the gun, its a non issue.

Bring a friend along to spot your shots. Makes for an easier pack out as well.
Just get a can and spot your own shots thru your scope...probably the biggest reason I went to a can..that and audible thwack that follows a hit..
The best is when it disappears out of the scope just before you hear the thwack.

Yeah that ain’t happening with a 9# 338 Norma Improved pushing a 275 grain bullet at 3100fps, with a suppressor at least.

I can spot shots past 500 with a brake.

I used to love them, when I was making part of my living making and installing them. $3 chunk of bar stock. Hour and half on the lathe and mill. Viola! 200 bucks!

Never put one on anything of my own, even when I was toting a 9lb 458 or a 7lb 375. No silencer back then but I hated the blast worse than the recoil.

Nowadays I won’t pass up a rifle wearing one if it’s a bargain. But it immediately gets either an adapter for my can or a trip to the lathe for a cut and crown before I even think about shooting it.

I hate them too. I had an M1A SOCOM that came with one, replaced it with a flash hider. The best use for a break is as a target.

It Don’t bother me when others have brakes. I use plugs and muffs. Besides, we are shooting, a practice that is known for loud and concussive bangs. Although it’s probably why my ears ain’t perfect 😂

Probably not...but I dont need 338 to to hunt..getting close is the fun part..I will keep my 6lb 18" 308 and hunt for a responsible shot under 400yds. That's what makes it fun for me.

Not a fan. Hated the concussion and I don't consider myself recoil averse. Recoil just felt violent and I didn't notice that much reduction. Took the brake off and groups were cut in half and honestly much more pleasant to shoot. I don't worry about spotting my shots typically so that isn't too much of a concern for me.

The math is correct. 150 to 160 db is (at least) twice as loud. 150 to 155 db is ~ 50% louder. The scale is weird, but that’s pretty much how it works, at least for our purposes. An increase or decrease of 10db is huge for perceived loudness as well as hearing damage.

To put it into perspective, a baby cries at ~110db. A suppressed rifle is somewhere in the neighborhood of 135-140 db.

No way. A baby's cry is at least over 170 DB and with the big wind up scream have been known to break 180... especially when it's at 2 am.

Many years ago sat next to a guy and we were going to shoot at a bull elk. I told him to go first, he had a browning semi-auto in 300 win. When he started shooting I got up and moved. When his magazine was empty and he was reloading I lifted my rifle and put one through the heart and dumped the bull. Turned out to be the only hole in him. That was the first and last time I was ever around brake. I have a few rifles that came with brakes, but the first thing I do is remove them and cap the threads and call it good. I figure that if I can handle my 300 RUM with compressed loads and hit what I am aiming at, I am OK without a brake. Kind of like hunting with a suppressor. I only shoot once so why pack a boat anchor around on the end of a barrel for one shot. Now if I was shooting matches or something like that, I would consider a suppressor.

A titanium suppressor weighs the same amount or less as the same length of barrel. How are you figuring they are boat anchors?

I have never been around one and from what I have heard about them I don't want to. I appreciate being able to jump straight to a suppressor based on information gained from this site. Rokslide has saved me a lot of money from making poor purchases to be replaced later.
